Gear Lust Part 7

Think somebody posted quite a similar question a few weeks back,

I think those pioneer all in one deck and mixer jobs seems to be quite useful, does everything a CDJ does with the mixer included. Sorry I can’t be of more help/ suggest models,

2 grand to play with though you should easily be able to get quite a good setup !

1 BigUp

well if its possible for way less its always welcome to save some money haha
Hrm the all in ones are those any good? 1 problem with a part and you can throw it away it seems… Or spill something and its done.

@CreamLord and @syrup will probs have some good advice

What you mentioned is not a bad setup, just depends on preferences. I personally don’t like some of the things on 700s (tiny jogs, no touch/release adjustment) and would look for something like xdj1000s instead, but they’re 90 percent the same in terms of functionality and you’ll feel pretty at home on everything pioneer after mixing on any of them. A pair of the og CDJ2000s would also be an option.

Mixer wise, haven’t used the 450, but between the 23 and the 250mk2, the Xone sounds nicer to my ears, though it is a bit quiet. not that big of a deal for home scenario.

Also if you’re ever going to be using vinyl, the phono preamps on lower end pioneer gear are not great.

All-in one is also an option, XDJ-RX2 is basically two XDJ700s and a DJM450 stuck together with a bunch of extra features. You lose the modularity when it comes to upgrading or repairs, but if you’re purely just looking for something to mix on, it’s more cost effective. RX3 came out last year as well, but i don’t think it’s worth the money just because they slapped a big-ass screen on it.

Never really going vinyl so that doesn’t bother me.
Seen the 1000s but theyre almost double the price of the 700s, is it worth it for the touch/release adjustment?
Been looking for those 2000s but cant find them anywhere sadly (at least not new and even thought its more pricy and I don’t mind second hand I wouldn’t buy such gear second hand, garuantee and all that).
I will have a look at the all in ones. Only thing I’m fearing is that it (as you said) will limit my upgrade/repair/expand options somewhat.

Edit; if you have any other mixers you would recommend feel free.

Oh, i was thinking you’re looking at second hand gear too.
No Pioneer gear is worth its price buying brand new tbh.

It’s more about the jog, it’s bigger so you can be more precise with it. As i said though, it’s not like it makes the 700s unplayable, just slightly uncomfortable for some people (like me).

Re: mixer, not really.

i have the 4ch version of this and i love it, but i do miss having filters and at least some basic FX sometimes.

I probably should look for second hand, will save me a great deal and those CDJ 2000s are nowhere to be found.

Alright I’ll have a look at the xone 23c
And search for either the x1000s or C2Ks
thx mate

edit; lol even second hand those 2000s are too pricy. Will probably search for some decent XDJ1000s
2d edit; hrm even those 1000s seem hard to find. Maybe I should look for 1 1000 and 1 700 (new ones then) but that probably looks and is retarded

i imagine that’d be quite uncomfortable yea :badteeth:

honestly the 700s do the job fine, but i just wanted to say they wouldn’t be my first choice personally, doesn’t mean you won’t have a good time with them.

I hella want the VST version of this.

I have the Arturia one which is decent.

So it will probably be the Xone 23c and a pair of XDJ 1k’s, should be decent/good.

Also need some monitors, probably KRK’s or Yamaha HS8, any preferences amongst you lot?

I use a pair of old passive Tannoy Reveal, heard good things about the new active ones.

Loool someone tryna sell an MPC 3000 for fucking 40k NOK (about £3,400), what the fuck.

pretty standard price for those now. they’re never going to make more, stuff like that’ll probably be 10k in a decade

you can get an s3000/s2800 rack unit for like 700 though, same converters

i have the audiothing emu and it fucks reaper up

never had it acting up until i installed that plugin

good choice, the 1000s are decent and pioneer effects succ anyway, no harm in missing out

KRKs sound like shit for producing from what i gathe, but are EQd to sound pleasant (my m8s 5inch G3s sound fine) and yamahas are pretty much the opposite.

a lot of people are saying JBLs sound p good in that price range, check out JBL 306/308

i have a pair of the active 502, they sound good, but bass is lacking (which you are aware about from the spec sheet)

quite direction sensitive too

Same with my ancient passives then. My guitar teacher sold them to me for a good price when I was like 21, haven’t bothered to upgrade since they still work. I remember him saying “If your mix sounds good on these, they will sound good everywhere” kinda paraphrasing, but yeah. Lacking bass because of wrong angle and/or distance is definitely a problem.

it’s not because of that, the drivers just don’t push out that much weight.

and tbh from listening to bigger monitors in this price range (upscaled for the size) it feels like there’s a definite compromise between low end extension and sound quality,
