Whatâs mental is that so many people think we are static, 1-dimensional âpersonsâ forever, with the same opinions, interests, etc. Literally everything changes all the time, and obviously, us too. Sure, there are probably some core archetypal values that might not change as much as others, but I believe these (or the âaccessâ to them) also fluctuate throughout our whole lives.
So Iâm having a devilish thought that I imagine Iâll get roasted beyond belief on here but here goes;
Considering selling my DFAM and buy the Behringer clone Edge instead. Reason being is they sound more or less the same, Edge has usb-midi functionality + the difference in price means Iâll have around $400 more to set aside for buying 2x decks and a mixer.
Dfam would net me around $600
The Edge is like $200 brand new.
Currently I have right around $1500 set aside for DJ gear. Add on top $400 and Iâm getting real close to being able to afford i.e 2x Pioneer XDJ 1000 Mk1 or mk2 second hand + A&H xone 43.
That, or a more simple all-in-one solution like the Pioneer XDJ RX3 which goes for around $2100 on the second hand market.
Was gonna reply, but had to visit the emergency psychiatric place again, started hallucinating on Tuesday due to extreme sleep deprivation.
Whole plan sounds good imo.
Space-wise a stand-alone controller is probably best, but the A&H are sooo much nicer, so you gonna have to make that choice yourself.
The aesthetic is really nice. A super chill user-friendly interface with some added capability for the truheds that know what theyâre doing with it! Everything about the device seems inviting and re-assuring that the learning curve will not be a turn off.
Because when the learning curve is a turn off, the lurking curve goes exponential.
Oh and forgot to mention I sold my DSLR for $1100 to help finance everything.
Yeah space is limited but fwiw as far as I can see I have enough space for a 2-deck + mixer setup as it is right now. Only major downsides I can think of now is:
I have to plug the main outs to my studio monitors., which is in seated ear-height position.
Decks are 99% going to be in ze regular standing height.
No sub in my setup so might be a bit thinny for techno/bass-music jams. Neighbors are probably better off w/o a subwoofer though.
10 days later and I finally got an offer for the DFAM I can live with. 6k plus 600 for the 2-tier stand. Getting reeeeal close to being able to afford a proper DJ setup.
Now the question is; 4-channel all-in-one setup (Pioneer XDJ XZ) or go down the 2-tracks + mixer route.
You donât need âneutralâ sound for DJing, the position of monitors does not really matter much if youâre just playing tunes. Of course it might be harder to mix if they are positioned badly, but ye.
Regarding what choice of setup, itâs something you have to decide for yourself, really. An all-in-one solution is easier to pack away and move around than separate units, but itâs all about preferences.
So itâs gonna be the XDJ XZ, despite itâs limitations. Iâve managed to score a second hand unit for $1600 / 16k nok. And for some reason or another the new XDZ-AZ released like what⌠6 hours ago or smt with a starting price of $3900âŚ
