2nfd hand MPD32 worth 80 quid?
At any ninjas on the know?
If it’s in good shape yeah. Cheapest I’m seeing em is around £125-130.
Am I the only one that thinks the whole ‘poly-chain’ thing (particularly being hyped by Behringer as a feature on a lot of their cheap analogue remakes rn) sounds pretty overrated? I mean even if they’re only $300/400/500 each, is anyone actually going to buy 8 or 16 of their pro-1s to make a multi voice pro-1 or something??? Seems like a ridiculous use of space and you might as well just buy or finance a proper polysynth. But what do I know. I mean I guess it’s kind of a cool feature but they’re even putting it front and center on some of the packaging like it’s a main feature
anyways I’ve been GASing hard for the new Dreadbox Typhon, for one it sounds good in and of itself & very affordable but especially cause you can run external stuff through the effects sections, sounds amazing:
realistically though I really don’t need another monosynth atm
someone traded in a used Alesis SR18 at my work, but it has the sounds and presets from the Akai XR20 (must have found a way to hack it?) and its pretty cheap so I think I’m gonna buy it off em. Looks unassuming and its a bit old now but a pretty sweet machine actually
im pretty sure I read that the SR18 and the XR20 are nearly identical internally when I was looking into buying one myself a while back
Yeahhh & its the XR20 soundbanks in it now so I guess they found a way to swap the sounds out hahah
I would never use the poly chain function on any monosynth. The bulk of the price in these cheap modern mono’s are in the case, power supply and controls. It’s not very economical to grab 5 Pro1’s to get the Prophet 5 vibe. Then comes the pain in the ass of operation. Want to do a filter sweep while playing a chord? Just grow 5 more arms .
I was storing my friends oberheim 8 voice for a while. It sounded glorious (well 6 of the 8 voices that worked properly) but it was such a headache to program sounds that I never wound up doing anything with it when I had it at my studio
love the 90s smiley light to remind one to activate xtc before ever playing it
So: in the early phases of research to buy a mic for VO work since I finally have an interface…
The Sennheiser MKH416-P48U3 is the front runner right now.
Gonna be so sick to have a really nice mic at last.
Wouldnt have thought of a shotgun first for that but I imagine it would work. Could get an SM7B or an RE20 and a Cloudlifter if you just dont want any background noise getting in. Im sure you know what you need best tho
That said as someone who works for a music retailer the waits on orders from suppliers are loooong right now especially probably for high demand stuff so if you see something you want available I’d prob snap it up
Yeah, directionality is the advantage w this mic. We’ll see. Originally wanted a large diaphragm but those things are magnets for background noise apparently and it’ll be a while before I’m able to get a proper vocal booth set up (my pal up the street has one I can use til then tho.)
Cloudlifter is a good idea, thx! EDIT: oh yeah, was looking at an ART TubeMPSTV3 for this sort of thing. Great, now I have to get both.
Gotta hustle and sell those model kits lol.
I have to agree with @MARSEN and I would go with a RE-20 or SM7B. Those are classic broadcasting mics that will do what you need and are half as much as that Sennheiser.
I have never really worked with a shotgun mic though, so maybe that is what you need. I’ve worked extensively with a RE-20 while managing an Internet radio studio. They are good for off-axis.
The cloud lifter is great, we use it for ribbon mics all the time.
Also, this site is AMAZING:
I just received my M4 one week ago. Love it!!
It sounds really good. Replaced an old M-Audio interface that I got 5 or 6 years ago.
The great thing about this is that I can now watch YouTube videos or listen to audio while my DAW is open. I couldn’t do that before.
Yeah man I’m extremely impressed with mine. Spent ages trying to track one down as they’re all sold virtually everywhere but dv247 had em in stock.
Really nice build and the LCD screen + power switch are such nice touches. Also of course the sound quality is extremely impressive. The most noticeable improvement is the soundstage and stereo separation. Really sounds like the music is almost 3d. Played a tune which had someone talking in it and for a split second I got freaked out and thought someone was in my room
