vaguely remember some post on old dsf saying that if someone posted 9 samurai in the dubs section, we’d all think the mixdown is meh, was it you? :badteeth:

given the amount of regulars left, mozart could probs show up and post the requiem and get 3 likes anyway :joy:

idk, i’m not particularly fussed about subpar production value in general, i like to think i appreciate all these old bangers for what they are rather than because they’ve been produced by x or z but i might be fooling myself

it’s nostalgia innit, most of us remember these tracks from way back and have always wanted a physical copy

:lol_og: have been thinking the same thing, in particular this tune that people seemed to be wanking over:

:confused_og:

Absolutely shocking production, i dunno how he could make a new tune like that after making some absolute bangers with genius production. This tune with the stupid long nose face sounds like he made it before his first release on Big Apple.

that ginocchio track i’d agree but then again have been listening to a lot of old 140 stuff lately and clearly the production value is eh if you compare it to whats being done now, stil enjoying them tbh, made an all mala mix recently and was kinda amazed at how fresh these still sounds in a certain way, despite being obviously dated production wise

old shackleton stuff also comes to mind, sounds deceptively simple production wise but still bangs imo

It’s funny you mention Mud because i rinsed it back in the day so haven’t heard it in ages but was having another listen the other day and fuck me that is some insane production. I actually can’t stand that riff at the start before it drops, it ruins the tune a bit for me.

01:00 mins onward until that annoying riff starts again os so good with the police sirens, the delays on them samples and that subtle claves with the reverb that i never actually clocked until the other day. So sick :gunfinger:

this :100:

there’s all these subtle details that are not immediately obvious that reward re-listening imo

Production value is the kind of word economists use . . .
Get off your high horses. The guy makes tunes that make you move!
How many other tunes still tingles your spine after 15 years?
Music is still about how people feel when its played

See i disagree with that about Mala, well i agree some of his tunes but alot of his stuff has some nex level alien sounds that i have never heard before which always blew my mind

There is nothing wrong with appreciating the production value especially when using it to appreciate in a minimalist way imo

I could spin what you said here:

Which can sound pretty cringe to be honest but i agree with it.

Wasn’t saying production value is the only thing, jus one of the many things as to why something is good.

Also at first you ā€œfeelā€ the tune as you like to call it and then later you can dissect it production wise. Well i always do anyway. Still not seeing what is wrong with that tbh
