Keep it simple.
ill suggest you get a synth called Omnisphere, download big bunch of banks for it, and try to see what you can get. There are ALOT of dark synths in there to get you going.
Id also research neuro basses (neurofunk/culprate kind of sound), and granular synthesis - those can be abused pretty well to achieve your desired level of depression.
Keep in mind, the sound design on these is usually really simple, its the percussions (drums in general) and the subbass movement that make most of the desired effect.
Iām not talking about the drums, the sub, or the neuro stuff, iād like to understand how these sine wave sounding wubs are made. I hear them a lot in the deeper/darker side of dubstep. I just highly doubt iāll find my answer by downloading Omnisphere.

I replied to the whole making of the genre, all i meant is that that bass you hear is oftenly isnt even all that complicatedā¦ It just syncs very well with the other things that are going on, and that what makes it great.

yes the loefah-mud thing, and I know it isnāt that complicated. Iām just a fan of the sound and havenāt been able to figure it outā¦
dude just have like a square wave lowpassed to like maybe 110hz and set an LFO to like 5-15% so it subtly modulates it.
