One Minute Syndrome (OMS)

Totally agree, Jizzo about being real with your tunes, with yourself.

BUT

Be real.

Like if you feel like you want to be making more progressive tunes (or whatever term) then flex, baby, work at it.

We’re all born as a lump of goo. It is only the exercise of our ambition that gets us anywhere.

yeaaa feel u on that goo analogy. guess i need to experiment more on that cosmic ass

Right? What are tits going to do other than sustain you?

Think theres a tendency to want to constantly switch things up every 8 bars to keep it fresh. So when you get to 32, you’ve already used 4 variations with nowhere else to go.

Loads of decent tracks are more repetitive then you think. A solid bassline can roll for time without change and not sound boring. I always worry listeners will have no patience and switch off if there aint sumit new every 8 or 16, but theres a lot to said for building tension and familiarity before introducing another element.

Been playing with this iPhone app “Auxy” for a couple of days and it’s like a purpose-built trainer for learning to avoid OMS. Bonus is that you can export audio and midi too.
