So i’ve got s legit copy of Ableton that i paid for that is on my Mac,
Thinking about getting a macbook, can you use Ableton on both or do you have to buy Ableton again?
Could i not jus have a macbook linked up to the Mac so that whatever i do on the mac or macbook is the same as the other, so they are synchronised?
It’s so i can take it to work. I would jus get the macbook for jus using Ableton at work and maybe Netflix or something?
Fukin terrible at explaining myself lol.
Each license covers the use of the software on two active computers owned by the registered user.
Sweet. What about syncing them both together like you start making a tune on one and carry on on the other?
Or would you jus have to save it and keep transferring the file back and forth?
dont think its possible (maybe with ableton link?). but yeah you can just share the project file back and forth as long as you export the samples and use the same plugins
I need tk go sleep now so i’ll read in the morning but regardless of weather you can sync them or not is no big deal.
Can someone recommend a laptop that is gonna be able to handle Ableton with ease but that isn’t overkill on the spec as i would pretty much be buying just for making tunes on and obv don’t wanna spend shit loads if i don’t need to
Any current or recent Macbook would be more than sufficiant.
I run a 15" MBP from 2012 on High Sierra. I can run Reaper, CS Suite, internet, streaming at the same time with no noticable lag or anything.
I was thinking get a 2nd hand one off Ebay cuz the cheapest new one is a grand
What about something that is 5 years old or something?
This is a decent one

Ah nice. You reckon i could get something for closer to £500?
650 comes with Logic X Pro as well.
Been used for making music so it’ll do what you need it to.
Offers considered.
Nice one that is more like it!
You reckon that will handle Ableton with ease?
Kinda considering getting a new one cuz it’s 0% finance
Will it be good as standard or would you have to upgrade it?
These are the specs needed to run Ableton Live on Mac
New MBA run the Catalina OS
Ableton works with Catalina as slong as it is version 10.1.2 (Live 10.1.1 and all earlier versions of Live 10 are not compatible with Catalina)
I wouldn’t think you would need to upgrade at all, however reports are that the new MBA is underpowered for it’s price range. Not that that would cause issues running Live - just that for the money you would expect more horsepower.
An older MBP 2017+ would do you just fine IMO plus cheaper so money in your pocket for toys (VSTs, external HDD etc)
Been importing my drum samples into alchemy (big boi wavetable synth that comes with logic) and it’s amazing how quickly it can transform dry old sample pack drum hits into the kinda rich, textured drums you hear in all the nicely produced techno/house/bass stuff.
Modulating like 2 comb filters, spectral formant, sample playback speed etc. Alchemy bangs, absolutely spoils you for choice when it comes to just piling on more layers, filters and modulations. I’d say Ableton with Max for Live is overall more flexible and free but Alchemy lets you in practice achieve a lot of those dynamically bending sounds within a single synth. The modulation options are mad.
When I actually lock down writing the beat patterns themselves and arranging tunes into smth listenable, instead of obsessing over a loop for hours barely changing it, I swear my shit is gonna sound pretty sick. And very 5 panel. A lot of drums twitching about for no reason.
could this be the start of a 5 panel resurgence? or is it too early
Nice one mate
Maybe the boys running Ableton can shed some light also…
I just bought a ‘new’ macbook pro and it’s from 2015 lol. Still €1400 though.
They put in a new screen and a new battery amongst other things.
It’s 2.2ghz i7, 16GB ram at 1600mhz and it has a 500gb SSD. Added benefits of it being an old model:
it’s built well, the keyboard doesn’t suck and it has a bunch of ports that are useful to me.
umm what the hell that still sounds like a lot. still, it’s used which is kinda better than new and it’ll serve you well I think
Do you reckon the new Macbook air will handle Ableton without struggling?
@ anyone
