Ah i only saw Para’s post coz i got a notification for it.

Just more organic and musical init. Less electronic sounding and has all the subtle elements here and there which keeps the track moving and evolving without sounding too repetitive. Think that’s what really sets apart the REALLY sick producers from the other sick producers. Ago is another one that springs to mind but there are loads of others. No one does it quite like Commodo though

I’m just glad he’s still putting good new music out lol, whatever the genre/style, long may it continue

Might be nerding a bit hard here, but I really enjoy his venture into the Southern US surf rock aesthetic, which in extension (backwards), is directly connected to the blues and barbershop stuff that inspired the original reggae music on Jamaica way back in the 50s and 60s. They heard that on the radio on Jamaica, and that’s how rocksteady, and then reggae, then later dub reggae, was created in the first place. Pretty full circle / natural return to the “roots” of the sound in my head.

Still a “much to explore” musical territory, in combo with the Southern US hiphop, that Commodo also brings into the mix. Connecting the roots with fresh production and sound design, etc.

Also wanna make people aware of that the general tonality and “chord progressions” (mainly basslines) in the 70s dub reggae, is highly influenced by Asian musical concepts. Compare the staccato guitar melodies in old reggae songs with someone playing a Japanese shamisen, or comparable Asian instrument. It’s basically the same style, just different instruments.

TLDR; all musical genres are connected a LOT more worldwide than most people realise. Klezmer > Eastern European folk > Scandinavian folk > Black Metal > Flamenco > Bossa Nova = same shit with slight variations (also not chronologically in that order of course). Stretching it a bit here, but if you listen to how the music is built up tonally, the differences are not that big. Some general defining tropes separating them, then of course sophistication and refinement within each genre, but to my ears, VERY similar.

Copped it today

Gave it a couple listens last night, I was a bit stoned so probably biased; but I reckon it’s my favourite sounding release of his from the last few years
