Amon Tobin Bass Design

Hey Guys ,
Im pretty aware much of the most common bass techniques (like neuro basses ,vocoder,filter/notching stuff )
but i cant figure this one out

listen at 0.57 or at 1.11
any tips or guesses how this is made ?
thanks in advance

google “Kyma” and prepare to be sad.

This is exactly the sort of stuff I don’t want to know about unless I accidentally become rich.

Tbh I cant tell you how he made it but I know that he layers foley samples with his basses before processing to give weird textures and also is a big fan of granular synthesis. Mans on another level

you could do a lot of what he does offline in Max 7, especially with pfft~ abstractions, or gen~. You don’t have to be rich, honestly i’m making a few nice chunks of change these days as a sound designer, with occasional music on tv shows—and i guess I could probably get a paca when CBS pays up for some stuff in a few months, but do I want to devote the time needed to learning the Kyma language? yes there are modules you can connect for TAU MORPHING!! and that’s great, but Kyma is deep as hell, and requires dedication.

What you’re really hearing in Amon Tobin’s work is one artist’s devotion to a few choice instruments. That’s what is setting his work apart - he didn’t just get a paca, he got a paca and decided to go all in. pick a tool or instrument you want to work with (that gives you room to grow) and learn it. then break all the rules you can. I believe that’s how you push envelopes
