Also Micky Mouse lurking in the back

Nice, one, enjoy it mate!

I’m thinking of upgrading my CDJs as well, XDJ700s are the only ones i can afford/justify buying new, but i’m probably gonna go used, because fuck that jog (+having a CD slot would actuall be nice for me)

Also, check this out, Pioneer CDJs (and your RX too i’d assume) can be picky with wavs, this is supposed to fix that. Or just download aiffs off bandcamp

Do you still use cds? Idk why but they feel even more antique than vinyl haha.

Safe for that, already use aiffs because of past issues with wavs but I think some of my stuff is still on wav so will be useful for those. Is the wav issue mainly with ones from bandcamp? Cause all my dubs are mp3 or wav but haven’t had any noticeable issues with those yet

Yeah i do ocassionally
I have a fuckton of CDs from back when i started DJing and i also burn some new ones like once, twice a year for a couple of reasons:

  • I have a pair of CDJ1000s back in Slovakia, which are CD only, so when i come over i can mix some new stuff
  • They are snappier than USB on my other CDJs which i have with me, they’re 400s and USB support on them is horrible.
  • I find it more fun, something about opening the wallet and seeing like 60 tunes at once is really nice, especially since i don’t tend to plan mixes out. Finding that one particular track you want to mix next on the other hand…

It’s not a deciding factor, but it would be a nice thing to have, i mainly want to have a larger jog.

Re: the WAVs, i’ve seen multiple people reporting they’ve had issues with BC wavs, but it’s not limited to them.

Suppose if you still have gear that uses cds and a load of music on it then no point getting rid of it. Suppose you still get some sort of physical aspect like you said about opening the CD wallet which is part of the appeal of vinyl

Yeah, it’s cool, but i’m still like 95% USB these days, which is why it’s not a top priority in new gear
i’ll probably just keep the 1000s, not like you can sell them for much these days anyway.

I’m not sure I could get a lot for any of my gear so I’m sure about if I’m bothered selling it at any point in the future tbf

do u usually use up an entire CD to burn just one or two tracks?

I did experiment with full CDs and like 4-5 tracks a CD, nowadays i do like 10 tunes on each.

Do you ever play much around 170 Cream Lord ?

Is it harder to mix on CDJs than MIDI controller and if so how

Not really, that’s mostly because I don’t listen to a lot of 170 though. 90-150 is the range I generally play in

Putting the Christmas tree lights to good use.

Funnily enough saw a thread on the old forum recently about rotary mixers which I commented saying what’s the point with them and here I am 10 years later with one.

Got a CDJ900 as well that’s not in use as it’s a bit tight for space on the console but hope to rectify that in coming weeks.

Is there any benefit of using a rotary mixer over a standard one? I think I remember reading that it’s good for techno or genres with really long tracks with long blends but idk if I get it

Is that the mixer with the kinda wooden trim and a massive waiting list?

They definitely give you greater control especially when doing very long blends. Takes a bit of getting used to but once you get familiar with it they’re a lot of fun. Each time I have a mix with it I fall more and more in love with it.

I wouldn’t recommend it for genres like Dubstep however the mixer I have has a cross fader so I can do quick mixing should I ever reach for my old records again!

The below picture is mine which is a Mastersounds 4V.

You’re probably thinking of the E&S DJR400 or a Condesa? I’ve had a few blasts on on the DJR400 and I didn’t enjoy it that much as and funnily enough my mate who owned it has now sold it and ended up with a 4V like mine.

Had a mix on an ARS once and that was pretty fucking great.

That’s the one but damn the 4V looks nice!

My m8 has a condesa. The filters sound so fucking good, especially the isolators, he’s also got a pair of Martion Bullfrogs. Nutty set up.

I’m moving in the opposite direction. Think about selling most of my collection since I’ve been moving away from dj’ing over the past few years. Already sold about 3000 plates over the past 3 years

It is mind blowingly good. The sound is on another level and the build quality is unmatchable. Everything is literally perfect.

It’s valve driven and the valves light up red under the face plate and after a few hours mixing once they’ve warmed up the mixer really gets going.

I would strongly recommend anyone that DJs to consider one. They also do a linear fader version for those who don’t want to get onboard with a rotary.
