You guys had a nice studio back then.
I was trying to cobble something together but I didn’t have anyone to talk to about it and the Internet as we know it now wasn’t around yet.
I taught myself basically.
Started off with a Juno-106 and then a MMT-8 sequencer and a drum machine before I got a primitive Roland MKS-100 sampler.
It was a serious mission to start producing back then. You guys don’t know how good you have it now with modern DAWs.
There was something about interfacing with the hardware though.
so sick. gotta get my racks mounted face up like that
oh shit, didnt know youre phil from source direct, big up mate
He’s benga iirc
We taught ourselves too for the sane reasons, for example we only bought the 101 cos we thought it made acid until we learned it was the 303 which we got much later lol. I got jobs in places where they sold the kit, so got the new stuff at cost price, but in those days the older analog stuff wasn’t as expensive as it is now either. I think we paid about 450 quid for the 909 but they go for about 5k now in uk lol.
In those pcs is a mackie 32:8 with side car, genelec 1031a, juno60, sh101, tr909, tb303, jd800, akai s3200, some outboard stuff, power mac 7100, etc
My first sequencer just had a 3 digit display, that was it lol, 3 numbers and u had to program a whole arrangement via that
Edit: actually it was 2 digits, the yamaha qx21
So hard to find decently priced racks like that tho
MMT-8 is real shit bro.
