Compression question

watching this, distance says near the end if you want to change the volume of a sound you’ve compressed, change the output gain on the compressor not on the mixer otherwise you’re running the signal harder thru the compressor and thus throwing off all the settings you’ve tweaked

whaa is this true

i regularly compress something then change the volume baaare times finishing the tune and then mixing it, never really noticed a huge difference

I don’t see why it would matter. Either the volume gets changed before or after the effects channel (I’m pretty sure on FL studio the slider is post effects).
I could see where the volume change pre effects could mess with your compression cuz youre sending a lower level input than what you used originally but if it’s post effect then it literally doesn’t matter.

Yea, it depends on if the fader is pre or post. If it is pre, then it will change things. But I almost exclusively use the output on the compressor.

oh shit of course, i’m in ableton i’d reckon the fader is post effects

so if i upped the gain on my sampler it might be an issue but changing the mix with the fader shouldn’t affect it k
