continuing on from my Practice Sessions post from the vinyl-only mix thread, here’s Practice Sessions #2. #2 is actually my first successfully recorded A/V mix. The mixing, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired.

Hey man just a question about this mix. Is it all 140 or diverging in tempo a lot? Because I can honest to god not hear a single tempo mix slipup.

What I wanted to say really is that for a proper vinyl mix, it’s excellent in terms of in and out blending of the tracks, both tempo wise and when you drop the blend. Niiiice stuff ye.

Most of the tracks are 140, a few a bit less or more. Thanks for the comment. When i’m behind the decks i try to remember the nice blends and put those to together in one mix. I practice the mix a few times before i record it :v:t2:.

Ah, cool. I’ve started doing that too at a friend’s, don’t have space for hooking up my gear at home unfortunately.

So, got an upcoming gig on Sunday (@Harkat u should come), gonna head down to my friend soon to try to organise our sets a bit. Just talked to him on phone and he said the place is going to be open until 3 AM instead of midnight since the restrictions have been lifted. That means we have 11(!!!) hours to fill on just 3 people, all playing vinyl… also I’m working again Monday from 8, so gonna be a fucking challenge. The guys in Skankin Oslo crew (who are ā€œhostingā€ the event) usually plays hard DnB and similar stuff, but if I’m gonna play for 3-4 hours I’m gonnaa have to diverge into other stuff just to be able to fill my time slot. My bag only has room for about 50 records, not sure how this is going to work out.

Only take records with two songs per side.
400 tracks to choose from.

Yeah, something like that. I do have +120 dnb records at least, but most of them are singles (1 track 45RPM, 2 tracks on the b-side usually) and I haven’t had time to go through them, so would have to go in almost blind if I go that route. I’m also gonna play first and it’s gonna be outdoors for that part, so something calmer and not too intense is preferable. Thinking that just flipping back and forth between a couple reggae dub albums could work. I dunno maaan… Flipped through a bunch of stuff just now, then cracked open a beer instead. It’s way too hot today, hard to think straight.

lol if i can come i can bring some 12s if i have anything in particular u wanna play

That’d be funny, but I think it’s a bit strict on who’s allowed to play, it’s not open decks. I’m not that involved in the booking part of this gig, but if you wanna play out some other time that could probably be arranged.

Nah I mean like lend u some tunes for your set

I’m also playing with 2 other dudes and me and my friend don’t know the 3rd guy that well, we just know he plays a lot of dnb. So gonna have to ā€œplanā€ it so stuff doesn’t clash too much vibe-wise. Last time he played a lot of loungy dnb things, but I’m sure he has a lot of heavier things going too. I didn’t stay the whole night last time because of work.

bum harkat and record that pls

I have tunes, no worries.

Play gabba imo.

I only have like 4 records with proper breakcore, and one of them is Passenger Of Shit…

Nothing wrong with that
