DSF56 Production Comp (VOTE TIMEEE)

Appreciate it dude. I might be down for a collab sometime.

I usually spend the whole time period making my track

K, all good. One thing that helps sometimes is to break down the planned tune’s parts and assign time limits to each.

I mean, wandering around diddling things endlessly can be good sometimes too but when there’s a deadline it can be frustrating because there’s always potential just around the corner, seemingly.

Anyway, embrace limitations in general. Just because we have impossibly huge menus of options these days doesn’t mean we have to gorge on all of them at once. The best dishes are often simple, tasteful affairs.

Be back soon w next one y’all.

Sometimes it takes a few days, sometimes weeks, depends on many many factors.

I gotta say I support the bandcamp album releases towards server fees thing… I know there could be some issues with clearance of sounds but as long as it’s nothing super blatant I feel like the chance of it being an issue is reaaaallly small. and we could take that into consideration for sound sources/samples on future comps. I’d definitely throw some money at wav d/ls of these, great tracks folx

Well then the proposed ting I’m about to do will be totally cleared from the get-go.

Who wants to coordinate w @4ndY and take this forward? I know we have a lotta original artwork already usable here too… seems pretty simple.

Ok.

Little bit nerve wracking trying to pick the source, but Sleeps chatted w me and helped me narrow it down a little.

Was gonna do a poll but that won’t get people to participate: neither would the other option I skipped because it requires more of a time investment that I think is reasonable given our history (“extension pls!”)…

With the source[s] I think I’m gonna go with there’s a lot of material to choose from but it’s organized nicely, so we should get a wider variety of tunes hopefully.

Now just fussing over what kind of ingredients to throw at youz.

Pumped for this one!!

Also

Is that coz we don’t want to drag the forum into any potential nonsense with BC over sample clearence?

Need to set up shit u know, which PayPal does the money go to, etc. There’s possibly some tax issues on revenue too, depending on country. And just trust I guess. Like I wouldn’t want Mason to spend our hard earned cash on big plate dinners, haha.

The legal stuff too is very important to be totally clear about.

Ah yeah didn’t think of that

^This.

Another thought it would be cool to get some dsf stickers or shirts made so everyone can know I’m for sure a nonce in daily life.

Not really sure if that would be able to turn into supporting the forum costs in any way tho

what is the highest number of panels a cap can have?

We could note the samples we use in our tunes to help with legality

Noble offer man but when it comes to infringement & liability probably best not to ask producer ninjas to shoulder that burden, especially when you consider how many things are already resampled that ppl may not know about… and that’s assuming a lot. The moment one cat gets singled out by the bots for unlicensed usage the whole thing can come crashing down - Bandcamp TOU deplatforming, all that. But…

The good news is there’s so fucking much public domain/creative commons/royalty-free shit out there that it’s a no-brainer to use it for these comps specifically (especially for generating revenue to pay for the site.)

So I guess the main things to stay away from are vox from movies/songs, or recognisable melodies from songs eh? How deep does the rabbit hole go. What is acceptable?

1 BigUp

Legally, anything you don’t have written permission for to use is off. That includes all breaks, one shot synth stab samples, all vocals, etc.

It’s really a mine field. I’ve seen people complaining on Youtube that has had live hardware jams (!) on drum machines taken down, because the AI bots thinks it’s another song, since the patterns are similar.
Shit is pretty fucked up.

Guess we need all the hardware guys to come together and do some packs then :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I’ve been trying to get some sounds made to a pack here actually. Can make one shots in software too.

trying to coerce the big boys to fire up their million dilly modular systems

also its our responsibility to sample illegally
thats the nuum thats the job

i get all the concern for a shared bandcamp tho - but i dont think it would be an issue personally (just saying)

(talking generally, not for the comp of course)

Can’t use legal samples either, people get DMCA’d for Splice samples too nowadays.
Though if you use Splice you kinda deserve it.
