I see you’ve been taking dance lessons
Dope tracks everyone. Some comments.
‘Beat Medley’ goes hard in some places, many good song ideas in there.
‘Bright Black’ is nice too, but kick is a bit too loud. Would like to hear the atmosphere stuff better.
‘Codeine Wobble’ lacks a bit in the bass area. Interesting sounds.
‘Information’ feels really high energy PS1 soundtrack or something. Cool.
‘KOM B 01’ got some really cool rhythmic elements going.
‘Strobes & Lasers’ got a really nice atmospheric vibe too, nice pads.
Beat Medley was very good in places but didn’t feel cohesive. imo the first section should have been developed into the full tune
Bright Black has a sick beat, like some future leftfield boombap. Not a fan of the vox, but the swirly pads are good
Codeine Wobble ominous and oppressive. Needs a fatter kick and more sub.
Information I thought we were about to go full happy hardcore for a minute. Second Para’s PS1 soundtrack comment. Boss level music.
KOM B 01 some mad shit going on, very sick tune, excellent beat programming
Strobes & Lasers dig the pads a lot, seems underproduced though
cool subs considering how limited (imo) the source samples were
beatmedley - first third is very cool and hypnotic reminded me a bit of Selected Ambient Works vibe, like how it morphs into loads of variated sound design over the barebones rhythm which beefs up, and the last section with that sub is great. so variated it’s like a teaser for an ep, which considering how samey the samples were is p impressive
brightblack - pads are nice and the percussive hits are crispy, rhythm could be a bit looser, 0 swing is so clumpy, especially with all the kick fills (toooo loud), i can imagine ryan dancing to this. good atmospherics going on underneath tho
codeinewobble - lovely production, didn’t expect that lazy, spacey techno vibe when it comes in but it’s great, does actually feel a bit like taking too many opiates lolol. also nice that it switched up in the last third, could have easily repeated the same bars til the end. very nice and gay
Information - sounds more like a Megadrive soundtrack than PS1 imo, like Streets Of Rage energy, punchy beat is punchy, like the perc in the mix, that hat is a tad dominant but it suits the relentlessness of that synth-arp. Nice prgression with the sub and other lead thingy
KOM_B_01 - this is a fucking mess and whoever made it should be ashamed
Strobes & Lasers - pads and synths are nicely atmospheric, beat is a bit pedestrian but sits well mix-wise , interesting switchup halfway thru, the sustained pad carries this one, really liked that element
Yeah it was an interesting pack. A ton of percussion but the synths were all super samey.
It was fun to work with
Btw is the plan still to upload this to band camp or something?
Finally gave these a listen, amazing tunes all around. I don’t think there’s anything I can say about them that hasn’t been said. I’ll probably have to give them another listen to pick who I vote for, it’s a tough choice
When’s this wrap yo?
Probably give it til Saturday
I made my uncles listen to the songs.
They didn’t really listen
I played chaabi music until someone finally said anything. I was getting deep in the chaabi playlist
And the results are in
WINNER
Well done @lloydnoise - you win my dude with KOM b 01
SECOND PLACE
@mks - Information
@Tolsof - Beat Medley
THIRD
@_ronzlo - Bright Black
@sleeps - Strobes & Lasers
@Paralytik - Codeine Wobble
Big up all the producers and voters.
@lloydnoise next pack and theme is yours broseph x
ahh fucks sake lol
gg everyone, some way better tracks than mine in there tbh but big up, especially liked Tolsof and Para’s entries, was really tough choosing between those 2
I’ll come up with something fun in the next few weeks hopefully
I finally got a vote lol. Been a bit. It was really fucking hard to pick who to vote for honestly. I listened to all the tracks 3 or 4 times and they were all bangers imo
Big up @lloydnoise! Big big tune. Also big up to @sleeps as usual for running it.
Guys, I’m sorry for this one.
Think we can decisively say that less is more and smaller packs (much smaller) are probably the way to go moving forward.
Also sorry for my turd of a tune. Had a totally horrible epiphany listening to the blown-out awfulness - you know how my last tune (56) sounded a bit better overall and how I said I’d used a new workflow?
On this one I went back to the old workflow and discovered that there’s a single culprit - bouncedown exports in one app that creates mixes that simply never translate.
This means about 85% of everything I’ve done for like the last 10 years has suffered from this mix translation issue. So fucking gutted…
But at least it’s known now. Time to start from scratch.
Thx for playing.
Nothing to be sorry about dude. I thought the pack was pretty awesome and a good challenge.
Also I liked your track fwiw
Yeah man, don’t be so down on your stuff. I know how it is though, I compare every tune of mine to all of your guys tunes and always end up sad about how mine sound.
I thought the pack was dope. Nice to not have obvious breaks b2b big subs to work with (not hating on that, just change is good for the process)
you might be beating yourself up too much, I didn’t hear the difference between your two tracks, from a mixdown perspective. That Fog track from the Ambient comp was legit an incredible track and just musically better tbh - easy to get all audiophile when youre scrutinising every ms and db
I just make tunes on mid range AKG cans now, stopped caring too much about mixdowns as long as it;'s not redlining or clipping and things are clear enough, fuck it lol
Thx m8s.
