Pokus’ Rules:
Yo lads, for this iteration of the Production Comp I want you all to put your best effort forward
and try your hand at loopy/groovy techno in the 138-142bpm range. A crazy arrangement should NOT be your #1 priority this time around - FWIW I’d recommend sticking to a simple 16/32-bar oriented arrangement: i.e that no matter what, after 32 bars there HAS to be a significant change - I don’t care if it’s tonal or groove oriented.
The provided sample pack is a varied collection of both easy-to-use one-shots, as well as more obscure/random/funny samples and recordings I’ve had laying around for the longest time. Very curious to hear what you’ll manage to come up with using these samples only!
This style is a massive challenge for someone with my flavor of ADD, believe you me, especially considering I’m coming off actively hating four on the floor for like 30 years lol.
That said, been in maybe the biggest growth spurt of my life musically of late, a lot of things are finally starting to make sense and a lot of misconceptions cleared away.
I really don’t care about the contest aspect so much anymore: have realized there’s sort of a game to it given how people here listen and all, certain rules apply that a producer might not ever have considered with regard to their own work. It’s not an objective measure of talent as much as a producer’s grasp of their craft plus grasp of the DSF-centric qualifiers. And that’s cool - that’s a boatload of challenge right there, doesn’t need to be anything else.
Anyway…
All of this stuff outside my comfort zone so to speak has very much expanded my horizons so keep it coming and I’ll keep making slightly less shitty tunes every time, give or take.
