Dubstep is dead? Fuggoff!. Errr mate it died like 9 years ago

Right scene seems to be getting bigger here in Georgia.

true but i’m not sure the general public or radio DJs are particularly buzzed on it any more.
like, if an equivalent to benga ā€œnightā€ were released tomorrow, i doubt it would gain traction and hit the charts.

dubstep’s kinda run its course in a way. think of all the shit it has spawned/influenced/enabled, both good and bad.

it’s not dead but it has matured to the point where innovation is no longer the norm (hasn’t been for years though really has it) and the bar for production has been raised high enough that it’s kinda sterilised and is just a bit…serious and solidified now.

also loads of people/labels/nights have moved on. there’s new guys coming through but really, how many big dubstep artists have emerged within the past 5 years or so? not many if any.

i don’t think dubstep is dead either but it’s definitely not what it used to be. it’s entering its 3rd phase right now or something.

I most definitely do think it is dead though. 09 was the last year of innovation, the excitement has gone.
Just another passed it genre but with some of the most timeless incredible electronic music ever made.
It doesn’t mean it has failed, it is just an inevitability of any scene, still good music being made of course but it isn’t the same as 03-09

And that’s exactly my point. It’s not big or popular or famous or blowing up the charts.
It’s just another genre of music doing it’s own thing.
Ok so the innovation died off, but maybe it imploded under the weight of it’s own dread magnificence.

Dead? Hardly.

I think the dubstep is dead tag is a misnomer.
So it ain’t the biggest musical revolution anymore. It’s not dead.
People still go all glassy eyed over the halcyon days of jungle. Jungle ain’t dead either.
It moved on.
