Gear Lust Part 7

i say ‘so’ too much

I have a Machinedrum on my Techno Table. Plus a Volca Beats and an old Korg ER-1 is laying around too.

Ah, I also have an MS2000, but have barely used it. It’s out at a friend’s now.

I only have the Beats and Electribe as drum machines, been looking for something a bit more comprehensive. The DRM-1 is high on the list, a friend has it and it’s really fun to work with, and with excellent sound.

bought the Analog Rytm in the end :sunglasses: :dudebro:

Nice! That is quite the investment. Did you get the MKII with the sampling engine?

Yeah man! The new mk2 in black

The website did 6 months 0% credit too so I’ve still got money for a synth or two :lol_og:

I’m gonna just mess with this for a month though, sounds like you need to put the time in to get the most of it

Yeah, Elektrons have their own workflow. I’ve only had the Machinedrum, but once you get used to their way of doing things it is pretty easy.

Too much menu diving imho.

RYTM is an absolute monster of a box. It may be my desert island machine. Samples sound amazing through the analog VCF/overdrive/VCA. Capable of much more than just drum tracks, the dual-vco engine plus the built in sampler means that you can create amazing synth sounds with it (even chords)

Ah good to hear that man, was getting a bit worried on such a big purchase without actually having a play on it :joy:

Out of stock so still have to wait another week though for delivery

Is the manual decent or do you know any good tutorials?

Definitely the right choice! You can make great electro tracks with just the RYTM.

Personally I wasn’t impressed with the Minilogue at all. Didn’t sound good to my ears.
I’d look at a Bass Station II or maybe the 101 remake. Modal makes a nice synth in this price range
as well.

For tutorials I’d go straight to Elektron for the basics and for some creative uses and in depth stuff I’d look at Cuckoo on youtube. Loopop is probably my favourite channel on synths but it’s mostly just an overview. Really helps me make decisions if I can’t try the gear myself.

The RYTM was my 5th Elektron box, so I never even looked through the manual, but in general the manuals are good (the one exception being the Octatrack manual, that thing fries my brain)

Also, highly recommend joining the Elektronauts forum, it’s a wealth of information and a very friendly community.

Thanks man!

I really like the sound of the minilogue from what I’ve heard :man_shrugging: I’ll check those out though, just want a decent poly for sub 500

Nice one I’ll check those out :facepunch:

Wicked, thanks for the heads up :sunglasses: I’ll check them out

Oh yeah I didn’t really pay attention to poly or not. The Modal Argon8 is 8 voice poly though.

I do poly in the box for maximum polyness for minimum money.

He’s a friend of mine, in the Microkorg patches video he uses my Microkorg, hehe. Got it back filled with his custom patches.

He’s doing it in the box for maximum polyness.
