Gear Lust Part 7

This might be a bug. I had at one point changed the clock source via the software to USB and then later couldn’t get the internal sequencer to work even though I’m sure I had the right setting on the device itself.

I hooked it up to the software and made the change and it worked again. Then not connected to the computer I changed to different clock sources and back and it seemed to work. Not sure what was going on.

aren’t you just setting it to respond to midi time code from the DAW? one slave, one master; and the daw transport begins playback of the internal sequencer? the drumbrute does similar odd stuff

I’ve mainly been using it standalone with the internal clock while learning how to program it but at one point I synced it to my DAW via USB as a test. It was after that point that it appeared that I had to use the software again to change the clock even though the setting appeared to be correct on the hardware.

Probably needs further testing.

do you have to use midi over usb? The reason I say this, is because with devices connected via USB you can sometimes encounter the clock source issues it seems you are running into. If you connect devices like this via 5pin Midi In din connector, it really cannot do anything but respond to that data. So you get a standard Midi Time Code master/slave situation and playback of your DAW makes it just follow what you do on the transport. Start/Stop. Sometimes using the USB can make it more confusing.

If the documentation on this thing sucks like an above user posted, try checking this one, it looks decent: https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/behringer-td-3-getting-started/

I have one on order but they are on backorder. (like everything else in a Covid inventory world! lol).

No, you don’t have to use MIDI over USB. You can use the old 5 pin MIDI connector if you want. You can do internal, external or USB. I just had it hooked up like that for a bit when I was updating the firmware and checking out the software.

I will be using the MIDI Din connection when I bring it over to the Techno Table which uses no computers.

techno table. haha, what else you got on there? i like that idea and may try it.

I think you might have better luck without the usb. any time you can rule out the computer you will always get better sync/clock. This has gotten way better over the years but they do still make external Midi Time Clocks like the Motu’s for good reason.

I rearrange it all of the time to try out different things. I have a Beatstep Pro, a SQ-1 and a Keystep for sequencers. Here I’m using the SQ-1 on both the Boog and the MS-20mini which use two different control voltage types. The SQ-1 has two channels and I am able to assign a different CV type to each channel.

Edit: Actually the Boog is not connected in this photo but that was how I was running it for a bit. The table looks different now. I have the Machinedrum on the stand and the MS-20 on the table. Probably will introduce the TD-3 at some point. I have the Beatstep Pro out right now too. About to rewire it again.

Nice compact setup. I want to do something like that too, got some gear but no space. :frowning:

Also cool with the SQ-1, didn’t know you could do that.

i think if you just recycled more often you’d have some space :peeking:

Actually went down today, almost 200 NOK back. There is literally no space for any tables to put gear on though.

i’m in the same boat, moving stuff around and recabling. mostly because I wanted my samplers on my desktop so I don’t just use Kontakt or TAL,etc. I had them racked before and used them less; but I got around to adding a SCSI2SD external so I’m going to try again with them in my desk racks. I have a 61 key Virus and I love playing it as my main controller, but sometimes i wish I had gotten the desktop version. It’s just too big, horizontally. takes up the good part of one desktop.

Speaking of techno though, I recently added in a new 8 channel drum sequencer and a melodic touch/pressure pad sequencer to the eurorack. Soo much more fun and playable. Nothing like the immediacy of an X0X style sequencer for drums.

thing sounds pretty nuts

appears you do that frequently! lol, thats a very sick rack.

I have an intellijel pallette 104 with a rossum-electro morpheus in it and im getting an intellijel 1u midi box. promising myself thats it, for now.

ah nice one man, the morpheus has been on my radar for a while now, how do you like it? I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for a new filter but can’t quite seem to land on anything

(im selling a rossum panharmonium rn btw if youre interested :badteeth:)

i don’t have the morpheus connected to automate midi yet, waiting on the module for it. it’s like a sequencer for filter snapshots. and it sounds like you would expect

Cyc was sexting me with new synth jams this morning, such a nice way to start the day.
