yeah, each row is 84 hp.
just when you think you are done… I just got a Moog Slim Phatty missing 1 foot, box and manual for 350$. Not a hard decision to make. Its like 0 out today here so I’m waiting for it to warm up. The owner asked me if I wanted to hear it, and I was like “he’s gonna change his damn mind”. I hope I didn’t leave skidmarks in his driveway.
It’s a great synth. I got one of the last ones when they had a fire sale right before they announced they were discontinuing them.
That was the last synth that Dr. Robert Moog personally worked on; well the Lil Phatty at least, but they are the same except for the lack of a keyboard.
I was able to get nice wood side panels for mine.
yeah it sounds really good so far. it doesn’t bother me because of how I will be using it, but I think many users would like the fine tune pot to be tighter. Seems like it could be easy to accidentally move the value if you were using it in a desktop role live.
The filter resonance is pretty extreme. I could see it being too much for live purposes also. It might be nice if there is a way to link filter cutoff to an inverse value for the resonance.
I was sort of worried it would sound too similar to the Grandmother, but it’s got it’s own thing. The “phattyloader” firmware update program wanted to download the hex file to my USB audio interface. I actually had to reboot the mac to get it to work for whatever reason. it was at v 3.05 so it clearly has had very low use on it.
lol whut
The whole ridiculously priced audiophile thing is absurd and unnecessary BUT if i was stupid rich then i would deff spend like 6 digits on one.
Speaking of McIntosh:
Would love to work at a place like this lol and can see why their overheads are so much too
which Xpressor are you after, and are you open to second hand? I can keep an eye out for you. I almost bought a 500 series locally within the past month or so for 575. it was VG condition with some normal/usual wear on the front plate and knobs. I thought it was a good deal but I knew I’d keep it; and I really want a Thermionic. Unfortunately (for me anyway) they hold their value very well and anyone who has one for sale knows exactly what it is worth.
as a general rule of thumb, I try to make sure I get “fair price” or better, but with at least enough room to also cover the shipping. That way, I know I should get at least my money back should I decide to unload it.
575?? That’s a great deal. I’m looking for the 500 series one too. Where are you located roughly? If you see a deal like that again let me know for sure haha

I do pretty well on most used stuff I buy, because I do what I call “passive shopping”. A mental list of items I know I would like to have, but I am not actively looking for. It helps me because I negotiate better when I know I can maybe find a better price, and there is no sense of urgency where you can’t walk away from a “decent” deal.
I really only started doing this since I “got stuck” working remotely due to the pandemic. But I’ve made some good deals and made around 5k so far.
Logic autosampler helps if you are on the fence about selling something. I’d really like to figure out how to make a macro so when each patch is done being sampled it cycles to the next one, and then next bank, etc. I know I should just cave in and buy SampleRobot, but the price is sorta insulting for what it really does.
I do the same thing for the most part, there’s nothing i really ‘need’ here but always keeping my eye out.
Been planning out a 500 series rack to use as my mixbus chain. for a while now so I’ve had my eyes on a few different modules for that. Not in any real rush to buy though.
Print that out and tape it above your monitor just to be sure lol
no space for that, too much gear
the eBay “Make offer” option is a great way to passive shop. People almost always allow it when they know their ask price is on the high side estimate. Local music gear retailers pay 50-60% of resale price for any item they buy, and not a nickel over 60%. I don’t bother bidding on stuff generally; so I make exactly that offer, starting at 50%. I’ve only had one person actually call me out on a lowball offer, oh well. I’m sure no-one’s feelings got hurt either way.
watched some youtube video randomly on monitor controllers and it was talking about passive controllers (I have a passive controller) and how they affect the stereo imaging. I then spent the next hour looking at monitor controllers and cringing at the cost of them. Then I put on some ricardo villalobos and forgot about monitor controllers. His tunes sound so fucking good.
the man will always come up with new ways to scam you for youre money
I thought you had a Dangerous for that? Or did you have one of the summers?
sure this has been posted before, sick concept
blew my mind when i first saw it too. space echos and most old tape delays work like this, just a free running spool in a box.
