Gear Lust Part 7

Illustrator?

you definitely could but i’m thinking it’s probably something cheap or freeware.
read: “hoping”. i only have a 250gb ssd for OS. illustrator is a big install.

I think it is too commonly used, for something like these suggested programs. Almost like the acoustic Waterfall charts people use for room representations. If you have a GearSwhatever account, it is sort of like that is with your gear list. A database of device front panels for “known model” gear. and then a bunch of generic lines and arrows. Something easy that musicians can use without being a gfx artist.

It reminds me of like 20 years ago. Me and a buddy made a hw synth in Maya. talk about over-complicated…but you could add code to each little component.

for me even the board is still often source of confusion too. the gl2400 you have to take the board apart and switch the afl/pfl so it is “normal”. im not feeling that handy yet.

want a Hydrasynth sooo bad, first time I’ve wanted a hardware synth as seriously in a while, gotta be the keyboard version for me though cause the poly aftertouch is just beautiful

Got a friend who has it, it’s frickin’ awesome. Getting used quite a bit in his new stuff too, which is a good sign.

the Hydra build quality is so sick for the price. It’s not a Moog, but that should give you an idea. the editor by Sigabort is crazy, Paralytik. It’s 100$ but it’s extremely powerful. The desktop version’s pads are some of the best I have ever used. They have poly aftertouch/MPE aspects etc, also. The KB ribbon controller is really nice, but the plastic pitch and mod controls feel kind of cheap compared to the rest of the synth’s build quality.

Here is a YT review of the editor:

I think the sound is very digital, almost a crunchy metallic timbre. It really helps to run it through the analog desk, but I am sure you could also use something like SynthWarmer, PSP VintageWarmer, or Sonnox. Tons of other good ones available.

Linked it to friend with Hydra, he says it’s very nice to just program it for reals. But he says he’ll check it out.

there are a bunch of vintage emulations that are quite good

Got 'em, thanks.

He says “Cheers”.

yw. they are good examples of what a wide range of sounds it is good at. and a few, what it isn’t.

i haven’t gotten much bass i have liked out of it. for other stuff, its better than omnisphere. I actually asked them to include a Hardware Profile of it, but that was like 2 updates ago…

unexpected 50$ new distortion module today

i remember these boards used to do some weird shit with the solos. " rude solo light", in fact. frequently defective≥. this one doesn’t seem to have anything wrong with it. i am checkin the channels with the slim phatty. maybe not the best because its mono. they had it stuck in AFL mode. ;x

How much space you got, damn?

well, the 1642VLZ Pro is the small 16ch one. it’s only one rack unit wide.
But I will run out of electrical before I run out of space, anyway.

Eargasms!

20 minutes and they get out the tr08. idk

Infinitely sample-able though.
Those kicks at 19.16 and 19.25

it’s a solid “808” but to me it just sounds direct, with whatever help from nice convertors, mixer, etc. but this, it’s like taking a nice car for a test drive, and halfway through having to get on the bus. large change.

After hunting for years, I’ve finally been able to track down a used Anamod ATS-1 for my mastering rig. Analog tape emulation. Can’t fucking wait for this one to arrive
