I want advice on gaining skills as a producer

Right.

Do you say that so i can get the specific sound i want or for another reason?

Also, do you think you could tell me if i could make something at this level with a years worth of experience? If not, what CAN i make with that much experience? Can you estimate how long before i could do something at that level?

Heres some tunes with basses that arent that advanced…

The reason its not good to use patches and samples is because people can identify them and discredit you… Also the knowledge that comes from creating your own stuff is extremely valuable.

That reso song should take about 3-4 years to get to that level assuming you keep working at it…non stop every day. During those years, youll probably make some pretty cool tracks that your friends would play at parties and stuff…

Note: check out dnb forum and neurohop forum… those are probably better suited to helping you achieve those types of sounds.

Wow three or four? Didnt expect that. Lets hope that our learning speeds with writing arent the same. Hey. Ive been wondering. What would i need to record everyday items or whatever i wanna sample and then put it in music? How does that work? Our microwave rack makes that soft percussion sound when tapped on the kitchen floor. I believe that sound might be called a high hat. If so, its definitely not the same high hat used in hip hop. The one in drum and bass is softer and has a fading drone to it, if that makes any sense. The rack sounds exactly like the percussion in dnb music. In an interview, Asa said that he sampled wine glasses and i could hear it in his music as snares or something. That sort of stuff inspires me.

Those basses did sound simple but for some reason i feel the urge to say the turtle power remix has potential. Thats the only one i bobbed my head to. Bass was just too screechy. Sounds a little like frogstep. Thanks for the samples.

There’s no real definite time line to how long it’ll take you to make music of a good standard. Some people may very well get there in a year, for some it may be 5 years.

A microphone. A large diaphragm condenser would give you a more honest sound if that’s what you’re after (that requires phantom power), but a cheap dynamic mic, even your phone, could at least record it. Or you could plug your headphones into the mic socket.

Ok. Then. This fifteen year old kid i talk to sometimes says it took him a month to learn. He makes hip hop and can make a little bit of other stuff if he wants to. His hip hop isnt IDM or anything deep. Its just straightforward hip hop. The only thing impressive is his bass and hi hats. The way he sprays the hi hats around. The hats would be making a beat of their own in the background and you dont hear that very often in hip hop. Says he makes stuff for chief keef. The reason it took him a month to learn is because he knew other people that knew how to write or something like that. He said hes been around it for a while.

And i could plug the mic into my pc and upload the stuff?

Don’t worry about how long it took that guy, I’ve never heard his stuff so I’m not gonna comment on that. But just worry about yourself really, focus on improving and not worrying about how long it’s taking you to learn

Trolls dont admit the possibility that they might be wrong. And they dont say “Youre right” multiple times to people that they are “trolling.”

I just wanted to know differemt learning speeds to know the possibility of how fast i could learn. I wont mind taking a year or two. Experimentation sounds really fun. Thats how you become original anyway, right? Ill let you guys know when i finally get software and the laptop. Hope its before summer emds. I cant wait any longer. Been trying to get a job lately so i could save up. This unemployed shit aint working and im tired of waiting for mom to get this stuff. Shes too busy anyway.

Wow. Turns out i already knew what a daw was. I just didnt know it was called that. If someone wouldve said sequencer i probably wouldve got it then. Yea i played around on one before when i downloaded that fl demo but i didnt know much about music to be able to imitate anything or make an original tune. Maybe i did. That was two or three years ago, though.

Except a sequencer is only one part of a DAW. So… ;p

Yea. I see it now. I misread the article.

Don’t be lazy. Don’t focus on being big, those who have true passion will always be better. Those who want to make it big make generic stuff in my opinion

Don’t worry about how many likes, plays, or followers you have. If you want to learn, spend many hours reading forums, articles, manuals, and watch youtube tutorials. Keep the goal in mind, which is filthy music.

My realistic goal was hoping to be writing quality tunes by my 5th year haha and to be absolutely solid at my 10th or before haha. I’m at 2.5 now, still feel like I don’t know much. Have fun.
