there’s this movement going on with the sub bass that’s really interesting

how do you do your sub bass production?

Its slightly different on different tracks, but generally (and on this track) i make a copy of the main bass/sound, replace the oscillator with a sine wave, remove effects, automations, lfos that are not suitable while retaining the ones that feel good. I also generally add distortion and low pass it around 100-120Hz to make the sub feel more powerful. For some subs, i also add a very short envelope on pitch to give it a punchy feel. I use Vital for 90% of my sounds now including the subs in this track.

another question for you:
how did you achieve the sub bass “moving around” in this track (some combo of slight panning + volume automation?)

Nothing related to panning, you want to keep sub bass mono and at center, the movement is due to LFO on a filter+volume as well as slight lfo on the distortion amount (very minute).
