Production Thoughts

I’m going round in circles now lol. If that Pc was half the price of the macbook then i would deff get it.
Kinda thinking macbook cuz the extra 300 for it i would usually spend on shit anyway.

Gonna have to think on it.

Cheers mate

Actually the thinkpad is by far better spec, 300 cheaper and that includes the 1TB harddrive aswell as the upgraded SSD. Also bigger screen. 4 cores instead of 2

Think im gonna go for the Thinkpad tbf

imo don’t get a laptop with a spinning disk, if you get one with a <=500GB SSD you will wish you got 1TB, also try and get an i7 over an i5

Ok so if i upgraded the SSD to 1TB then that comes to £795.
Is it still worth have the 1TB HD aswell?
Says HD is 1st hard drive and SSD is 2nd hard drive

Also the i7 is also £100 more than i5. Do
I really need it? I am jus gonna use it to make music nothing else.

Same with the SSD, surely 256GB is enough cuz it has the 1TB HD aswell that i can store samples and other music files on?
Again i know fuk all so explain like i’m 5

depends on what you’re gonna do with it tbf, ‘making music’ is a very broad description. If you’re going to want to run loads of CPU heavy VST instruments/processing then the extra £100 for an i7 might be worth it.

Also, just because it says 1st/2nd hard drive you can still install the OS/software on the nvme, then just use the slow af spinning disk for storage

I bought a 512GB SSD for my computer not that long ago, installed windows and software and a couple games and then it’s full so had to swap it out for a 1TB SSD - a 256GB SSD is fuck all, once you install the OS and a few bits it will be full.

don’t wanna recommend you pay more money than you need to but just stuff to bear in mind

Ok cheers mate, suppose getting 4 times the amount of room on the SSD for £100 is a no brainer.
Gonna be costing £900 now lol but spec is way way better than macbook.

Are Thinkpads allright?

1 BigUp

thinkpads are aight, not as aesthetically pleasing as a macbook but are you going to spend your time looking at your laptop or using it?

Jus tried to setup finance on their websites but says i haven’t been approved :confused_og:
I have really good credit history, earn good money and never been refused before. Was fuk all to pay aswll.
Fukin hope that hasn’t put a dent in my credit score :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Yeah i don’t care how it looks

paypal credit?

Yeah might have to, not 0% tho

it is 0% if you pay it off in time iirc

Scan computers might also be worth looking at, they sometimes have good deals

Ah yeah 4 months 0% so i could jus pay £250 a month which is doable.

Done :grimacing:
Got 3-4 weeks wait tho

Always pay in one go imo. You have to flex at your computer screen and yell something while you
do it too.

What do you think are better Windows laptops? My brother has the fattest gaming laptop, it’s like double the spec of my new macbook but it was also €1500, it looks terrible and just the power adapter
is heavier than my laptop haha.

Then on the other end, my friend got a €1200 Dell notebook through uni, which feels pretty good and is small and light but the battery is basically useless now and he’s had it for 1.5 years.

Lol i would of paid in one go if it was pay day but got 10 days to wait and i am impatient.

i’m not really a laptop expert tbh, I’ve had a few over the years but I don’t use them for music production - i’ve always just built my own desktop PC for music/gaming

Yeah I also had paypal denying me the finance option recently, I’m guessing its because of covid

Also something important to consider for music stuff is how loud the fans get, my macbook is sounding like an airplane whenever I connect it to an external monitor and a DAW

Which one do you have and what OS version? There have been some issues with macs and
external screens since Mojave. I had an issue within Chrome but it was fixed by turning off hardware acceleration. Haven’t had any heat issues or loud fans though.
