Production Thoughts

I’ve been using macrium reflect to image my ssds/hdds. Not sure if this what you had in mind

was hoping for something to just specifically handle vsts and all the registrations, will probably end up doing something similar though if i cant find anything

yeah man, let me know if you do. It gives me legit anxiety thinking about having to properly reinstall everything on my computer (+animation software, plugins etc)

this is poor help

but i know there is, i just cant remember what its called at all

maybe search gearslutz if that place still exists

Really sucks when software so strictly enforces its commercial license to the point of making the customer fear upgrades. That’s kinda fricked. It’d be nice if you could just copy some files over from the old system to the new, but companies don’t want it to be that simple. It’s a little bit of an “I bought it, but I don’t own it” kind of deal. It’s not nearly the worst example, but still, it’s fricked.

I copied my whole system to the new laptop and the only ones that didn’t work straightaway
were from NI.

Any of you have any experience with room correction software like RoomEqWizard? Wondering if I need a special mic for the software or if I can get away with an Sm57 w/e I’ve got lying around.

My first thoughts are that the frequceny response of the mic at some level will interefere with the measurements etc.

Need advice for treating a room.

I’ve currently got my setup in my tiny kitchen and as you can imagine it sounds whack.

Would a carpeted room suffice for insulation its fairly big.

Or do I need extra insulation etc

carpet will def help a lot, speaker placement is also important

I found a foam company and bought directly from them when buying room treatment, it was way way cheaper than buying the foam from a ‘room treatment for musicians’ based company

so speaker placement?

If I have them on the back wall (furthest away from the neighbours lol)

I have no stands. How does the foam help? (like where do you put it)

Good idea btw

You should try to have your speakers at least 1 foot away from the wall. They should be pointing at you in an equilateral triangle from your listening position, ideally at ear level.

Sometimes it is hard to do certain things so you really should get to know the sound of your room by playing music that you know well in your room.

I remember the first studio / practice space I had we put up mattresses and egg cartons on the walls.

It was probably a fire hazard.

might have to invest in some speaker stands. I’m lanky so ear height is hard. the desk I have my gear on is only about a metre high.

That’s the ideal situation. My monitors are lower right now as well.

I’ll probably get some stands.

Yeah, I have stands for my main studio which is in pieces.

How tall? How much would I be looking at

Ear level if you are using mid-sized monitors and you are sitting in an office chair.

I don’t know how much they are these days; I bought them a long time ago.

This was my old studio in Seattle circa 2007:

Ahh.

I have an office chair I assumed you meant standing up.

Yeah mine would probably be alright without stands then

So sick.
