So recently I’ve been contacted by what seems to be a freshly started online-only record label, asking me to send them demos. They’re asking both for some of the tracks I’ve got up allready, and are also interested in stuff thats unreleased.
Submissions that are approved of are to be part of a pay-what-you-want-online-only release with something around 20 tracks (!?) in total.
Idk what to say tbf. One part of me think it feels fishy at some level, like are these guys just out to steal muh tunes, and one part of me is more like “hell, any exposure is good exposure”.
Thoughts?
If they don’t have a track record and aren’t your m8s then I’d be inclined to politely pass.
It’s all good and well to support new labels but as you say, you’re totally in the dark as to their motivations - given the surplus of homecooked music out there it’s easier for someone to start a scam and fleece a bunch of marks than to actually curate high quality material (like yours) and promote it accordingly.
Alternatively put it off for a while if you can and see who else they sign if anybody. You can usually tell pretty quick if it’s real or not when they start signing Russian hardstyle cheese or ShiTrance or w/e.

Think I’ll just do this until further notice. If their label picks up steam they’ll probably be open for more demos in the future as well.

The Hochdruck mixes aren’t bad for what they are actually.
Seems like there’s only two acts affiliated tho, them and Not Modest.

yeah
got some nature background scapes -then put some bird calls in the background to keep the attention
its always ime a good idea to put some ‘real life’ - samples behind a breakbeat to fill up the space between the hits and also to mock it up a bit
it ‘pronounces’ drums in a way

I could do with some birdcalls/nature-scapes.

I got tons of foley that is excellent for percussion if anyone wants some.

Hi-res bird sounds (96k) downsample/pitch down INSANELY well. I’ve found a few that sound like fully demented synthesizers.
