Production Thoughts

I have Edgard Varèse’s Poème électronique on vinyl. It is sweet. I have a CD of some Xenakis compositions as well.

been using the same ‘impact’ sample for 4 years now and not gonna stop

I’m trying to delete a lot of samples as I find myself using the same ones over and over so why bother with the rest.

Round my other m8s tonight, new toys to play with…

So your friend has a real 909?

Plus an authentic 303 to test the TD-3 against.

I thought about getting the RD-8 but have kind of been holding off for the RD-9 which is finally being released after what seems like a couple of years.

that gem knob on the 303, god damn son

Yeah we bought that 909 in around 1990, I was with him at the time, it’s his tho, the 303 I think we got off the classified paper Loot around the same time, pre Internet times lol

303 is still nicer but TD3 is alright, pretty close. The rd8 doesn’t compare with a real 808 imo but still a good laugh to mess about with.

Not bad, kick was disappointing, just that kind of digital feeling on the pots, I dunno hard to explain lol

Lol that’s a Jason Chessex Ltd edition model

Ohh that’s crap to hear, was really tempted to get one not long back… Will have to give it a miss now ! Cheers for saving me a couple hundred quid !

I found that using the transient designer thing on it helped shape the kick up a lot, kind of like compression on it really. But havent used a legit 808 to compare directly either lol

What’s everyone’s thoughts on melody? Seems like a lot of music now doesn’t care much about it, it’s more about the actual textures and sounds rather than being told a melodic story.

This guy has the same opinion.

Personally I love making melodies.

Yeah I think I’ve seen that video or one similar to it at least.
I think both are pretty awesome. Sounds design could definitely be thought of as a more abstract way of telling a story that a melody does.

I’ve been using trackers for many years, so I’m all for melodies and harmonies. Trying to make things interesting within limitations.

Some cracking track breakdown/Q&A videos
All D&B but really interesting to watch even if you don’t like D&B

I could go into a real anxious outpoury post like ppl do about mental health about my general problems with making decent music lol

Dk if even thinking about it is just narcissistic indulgence that pulls you further away from making music “authentically” or if it’s smth I should systematically try to learn and not leave up to the vibe, man

Like specifically I seem to make rly shit dense drum patterns/melodies that are too wiggly and noodly. Every time I think I’m adding something cool it’s just making it scratchy and fiddly instead of swaggy
