Production Thoughts

That sounds sick bro, cheers

Looks like a lot of fun. Didn’t know of that Minibrute 2S tbf. Semi modular synthesizer with a built in step sequencer ala beatstep i recon. Like a suped up version of the behringer crave.

I explained it how I did, because of a “bug” in Logic 10.5. Sometimes if you do the steps, it will never create the Midi file. The only thing I have noticed whenever it has happened to me, is that I did not have an empty Midi channel created inside the project. If you put one in, it always works right. You can just load any Software Instrument; and then delete it when you are done, or use it for a plugin.

Whats the EQ doing on your sub, kicks & drone?
Can you screenshot?

Any tips for free/affordable spring reverb VSTs?

shid vid but i think brian eno uses fruity loops

Just learned about temperaments and just intonation and 12 tone equal temperament and all that and now I’m super interested in doing something with microtones/tuning everything by ear kind of deal, which would be impractical i think, so I’m trying to come up with some possible alternatives and one is to just tune a sound to a couple of sweetspots then bounce them, which would create a sort of ‘scale’ and also opens up more resampling

You should check out Sevish, brilliant guy doing microtonal stuff.

Awesome I’ll have to check him out.

The thing that really got me was reading about gamelan tuning and how it’s essentially different for every orchestra and is all dependent on the guy that made the instrument so there is no standard of tuning, which means the notes are really all over the place

Which essentially to me drives home the idea that tuning/notes are essentially “made up” and western 12tet is basically a convenience.

So then theory is also all made up. Dissonance is almost artificial in a sense

Just rambling tho lol

It’s convenient because you can play in all different keys without notes clashing too much. The harmonics series follow Pythagoras’ basic geometric shapes in terms of the math, so it’s not entirely made up.

Yeah made up is definitely a strong term lol. I somewhat understand the idea and math behind it as well as the goal. I think key modulation is a bit underwhelming though simply because since all the intervals are the same, all keys are more or less the same, just at different pitches. Obviously this isn’t entirely true in practice, but still there is something missing there to me.

I guess I’m not entirely sure what I’m getting at. I guess I just like the idea of being able to add a bit more “color” to a note.

Nobody’s stopping you, hehe. Dolores Catherino has some pretty insane microtonal compositions too, I’ve linked to her Youtube on here before. I totally rate polychromatic experiments.

I play one of the Western instruments which is not confined by 12 tone equal temperament which is the upright bass and also the fretless electric bass.

Concerning leading tones while outlining a chord while playing Jazz, you can push the 7th sharper as a leading tone to give a stronger sense of resolution leading to the 1 (root note) more than you could than with a fretted instrument or piano.

Dude that’s awesome. If I ever learn a string instrument it will definitely be fretless. Probably violin cuz I’m a sucker for folky sounds lol.

How long have you been playing?
