I just love your elaborate 3 step guides to success that you’re giving to tossoff
Take time & do not create a word that has a significant effect in context with the latter word.
Finally got around to making a tune like this, and so far loving it. It makes it so much easier to provide context to what’s going on, and also build the song better, rather than just piling everything into one loop and trying to figure out everything else
That’s a good tip actually, need to change my workflow a bit too, because I can almost never get past the loop stage. I still think it’s nice to smoke a fatty and just sit and sound design for hours tho, but it’d be nice to actually finish more songs.
I wanna try to send some stuff out to some labels eventually. Already have the Paralytik Youtube-channel, the dot com and the Bandcamp, just need some stuff to put up there lol.
Not smoking weed has meant I finish tracks now n don’t just sit there noodling like a noob
The noodling is fun though! Made some useful patches that way that I can use in other projects.
I dunno man, if I dont finish something in one or two sittings now I tend to just move on… I finished a few tracks whilst stoned and imo they are way more creative but idk man it was like 20 tracks in 4 years which is shite
Yeah it kind of got the music going a bit better for me. Still planning on having a ‘loop’ but it’s going to be a bit more hurried. This is kind of my general approach to shit too. Get a rough draft, then keep going back and refining it from there, taking ideas I come up with later and implementing them earlier.
Re weed: I like to get in the flow sober, and then light up. I do find that being high tends to get my hyper fixated on like one part rather than moving forward
Yeah man, I’m the same on that. I wanna set up more of my hardware though, I think it’d boost the creativity.
I get what you mean, but I’ve just been really tired lately, even though I’ve cut down a LOT on drinking (still sleep like shit), so when I just feel like making some sounds, it’s nice to be blazed while doing it.
Agreed man. And just cuz it’s my preferred way/more productive way doesn’t mean it’s the rout i go most of the time lol
I’ve been fluxing in n out of having hardware in the setup and then going back to completely in the box, right now I’ve got a nice middle ground going… Its a bit cavemanesque I tend not to use midi but manage to rope things along well enough to make a track
What I, mainly, miss in my setup now is some proper keys to jam on, and a steady place to set up the pad controller. Can’t be arsed to just click out notes in a sequencer, I wanna play along to the loop until I find some nice melodies or chords or whatever, then practice that enough to be able to record it. Preferrably without quantize. That way you actually get better at playing at the same time innit?
I’m shocking on the piano really man, do you play ?
I can’t say I know my way around the piano that well, but yeah, I try. Surprisingly enough, my improv piano jams gets the most plays on SC. Kinda a sign that I should focus more on that I guess.
EDIT they’re sorted with the latest first, so my playing gets progressively “worse” throughout the playlist. Got some good theme ideas in there for sure, should just go through them all and try to decide what parts are worth making complete songs out of.
EDIT2 most of it is complete improv, but some parts are things that I’ve noodled around with for a while.
Oh sick man I’ll have to check these out
Some sample-worthy stuff in there if that’s cool?
There’s about 130 tracks here since 2017/18, and only about 10% are “finished”

At least you’ve started that much music, that’s half the battle actually having the motivation to get in front of the computer !
