HIYO…

Yeah I mixed on the MiniMain’s for a few sessions. Was really impressed by them.
Classmate had them in his home studio.

(he made a lot of money in energy contracts or something before going into audio)

Thanks man, im looking for alternatives to the usual rokits and genelecs

apples and oranges m8, rokits are :nogunfinger: genelecs are :gunfinger:

Yeah I think i just need to buy something. I’m over thinking it now and worrying about buying the “wrong” thing…

I would really recommend using Syntorial It covers all the basics really well, helped me a ton even using the free version

Barefoot is certainly not the wrong thing, but I wouldn’t spend this much on monitor speakers unless they’re going to be in a room with proper acoustic treatment and they’ll be there for a while  So real studio application.

If that’s not your aim, I’d look at Genelec, Neumann or Dynaudio. Focal and Equator make decent speakers too. Quested should also be a contender if you’re looking at that higher segment (around €1000 per speaker like Genelec). Availability might be an issue though.
I personally haven’t heard them but I’ve heard very good things.

No no nothing pro studio.
Standard bedroom producer. As long as I can get a 40hz sub shaking the house without investing in a seperate amp/sub I’ll be happy.
Def want active speakers so probably gonna be genelecs tbh. Seems to be a good all-rounder workhorse.

Think you need quite huge Genelecs to make this happen.
40hz sub shaking requires a sub and neighbours that can handle it . . .
Missing that

Maybe not shaking the whole house maybe rattling the room I’m in

I only have the small Genelecs and they wont rattle anything, but I think i can feel/hear that nice sub deep down. But really missing to have a sub at home or somewhere to listen with sub.
Even a 7" sub seems to do the do (for a small room)

Look into Adams monitors?
Cheaper than a lot of the top guys, but at least the A7X sounds very nice and accurate

I have Genelecs with 6.5" woofers but they won’t really rattle the room.
Very nice low end though. Anything with a 12" or 15" woofer will probably shake your room up quite a bit, but it’d be more cost efficient to buy a sub and some speakers with 5 or 6 inch woofers.

How big is the room?

I use my Klipsch’s when I want to rattle the room. But I don’t produce on my Klipsch’s.

About 12 to 13 square feet. Wooden floorboards, brick walls, there wont be much in there but production and dj set up. A couch and an xbox and tv.
I think 7 or 8 inch woofers tbh will be plenty. I just want to eq and level real nice. Clarity and freq range above all else.

Mackie HR824s are decent - 8.75" woofers, plenty of low end.

fwiw I produce with Genelec 8040B - 6.5" woofers and I have to turn the bass right down to minimum in a larger room.

Feet or meters? Either way it’s going to be too small for anything bigger than 8", that’s true.
If it’s 12 m2, I’d go for 5".

I don’t really turn the bass down on my 6.5" Genelecs. Room is about 25 m2 I think.
Bass is fuckin loud in the bathroom but nice and balanced in the listening area (desk and couch).

Each wall is 12 to 13 feet long. Square room.
Thanks for the advice mate. It’s a big plunge being a newbie producer. Wanna make sure I get it proper.

Yea sure man.

Let us know when you’re thinking of pulling the trigger. My personal preference would be Genelec or Dynaudio. I got some Genelecs 2nd hand for €600. That was a steal, but you’ll be able to find something nice if your budget is about 800 - 1000.

Budget will probably be around £1100gbp but I need headphones and an audio interface as well as the speakers.
