Production Thoughts

I have a buddy who has a pair of Barefoot’s. He loves them, great combo of accuracy and vibe. I thought about them but in the end decided they were too much speaker for the size of my room. Went with the bigger Neumann’s instead. Wouldn’t even consider them though unless you’ve already got/budgeted for room treatment and great converters

Lately I have had a breakthrough with mixing, now I understand what it exactly means. Before I thought it was just slapping a compressor on everything. Now I understand there are more variables than dB values, there is also stereo, panning, and layers. So hopefully my production will be much better now that I have learned this, yay!

Recently I discovered the “Amount” knob on Ableton’s Multiband Dynamics and now I can’t resist to put OTT on every master…

Key secret ingredient for prohedz® lol.

Random Production Thought:

I love the format of Against the Clock but get annoyed that I’ve heard of so few of the artists. A lot of the ones running now are super meh to my tastes.

Then I started thinking about other reasons besides taste why this might be so: maybe the producers we like [in some other genres around here] aren’t really fun to watch. Or maybe the format of the show has turned into a showcase for people who’ve rehearsed the format.

Idk but there’s a hell of a lot of interesting acts out there rn and I never see any of them on FactATC.

Delete your compressor.
SO much more cooler stuff than just cranking those dBs!
There are a lot of lovely subtle touches you can do to really layer up your sound and build a whole soundscape. Stereo width is one of my faves.

more rap than beats but a smidge of beats too

rythm roulette - a bit limited but sometimes interesting -all hiphop tho

its like producers that are good at having drums on the ready - or use drum machines and midipads - ‘‘set-up dudes’’ fair well at stuff like that

i prefer the sound of producers using proper breaks tbh

some of my tunes take over three months to make but i finish every bit i work on
(guess its bit on the total oppsite end - so im biased)

Does anyone know any good tuner vst?
I would like one that works like the stock ableton tuner in this video. All the tuners I’ve tried so far aren’t very intuitive or very good.

Cool in principle, but the results… I dunno. It sounds like halfway to being a rando-yoi generator at best.

And I said I was going place a moratorium on any new software until at least the end of summer.

Might still check this out. The guy that made it does tons of good Ableton Live instruction videos although I think he makes Trance for his own stuff.

I might send $1 his way.

I ended up sending him two bucks to check it out. I can hear some potential. It is going to take a lot of experimenting.

Which is kind of where I’m at right now anyways.

I’ve been looking for weird glitchy plugins which I’ve gotten a few this week.

There’s a lot to explore.

The kids will make their yois anyhow but this could be cool for little glitchy grimey one shots…
Will check it out for sure.
Maybe I’ll make some yoiz and get famous and support skrlliesxx

Edit. Nvm. Ableton.

I already made some cool stuff with it which inspired the beginnings of a tune and that is always good.

Made an Electro head nodder last night.

You’ve probably all done this before but it’s new to me.
I put a 100% dry woodblock/clap hit on one channel almost mono, and then put the 100% wet reverb on another channel at full stereo width.
Then i pan them L and R to taste.
Or automate the wet channel so the sound moves about but keep the dry channel dead centre narrow.

Sounds real nice.
