Production Thoughts

I’ve been on and off a depressive mindset for years tbf, and when I’ve had longer down-periods, I often find it easier to create tunes that match the miserable feeling I’ve had inside. I.e; feeling angry and depressed? Better make a 150bpm tune where everything is smashed with distortion etc. Same goes for painting.

Same. I make different art/music depending how hard my problems are kicking my arse.

yeah I’m not going to bother with the rack thing, it’s was just the thing about using the utility for gain staging that I’m gonna start using

Anyone have any plugs for good UKG drum kits? I know a lot of 4x4 tunes just use 909 sounds but by the 2step era the sound seem to be from some other sample pack. There’s a pack I found called Tempramental UKG or smth that has a fantastic selection but they all seem to be MP3 rips taken from tunes and awkardly layered with reverb and shit.

At that time in the 90’s there were sample CD’s that people used but they weren’t as common as sample packs are today.

I think the key is just sampling the right drums and pitching them up.

IIRC a lot of amen break edits and other sounds come from that jungle warfare CD in U.K. Music

Bingo, this tutorial is pretty good for making your own rimshots

Also the 9th wonder drum kit is really really good

Yeah, there were some classic ones. They got traded around the UK a lot more easily. There wasn’t the Internet as we know it today with big enough bandwidth to trade files. I was halfway across the planet.

I do have the files for the Reinforced sample CD which got used a lot.

can I have that pls lol?

Yeah, I will zip it up and put it on my server for awhile for the DSF heads. It won’t be until later as I have just arrived at the office.

Good tutorial.
Will def use it to get more dead/muted woodblock sounding percussion.
But faaaarrrk me that guys voice is annoying.

yeah it really is isn’t it

jeez the state of this guys voice… is this satire?

really wanted to learn something from the tutorial too but i already knew about pitching snares and putting them through a lowpass filter :lebebe:

To be fair I’m pretty sure he has a cleft palate

more power to him for putting it on youtube for the whole world to hear i guess tho

im one of these persons who goes in full body cringe when hearing the sound of my own voice tbf

I couldn’t watch it :joy:

I’ve been thinking lately that at some level, my productions have been getting better over the years, but still I don’t feel ‘better’ if anyone knows what I mean?
Like some of my tracks are more polished, deeper with more layers that fit well together etc, but I still feel that there’s something about completing tunes, or writing songs if you will, that I haven’t yet understood.

When you’re making synth sounds it’s mad how much filters and modulation thereof matters, like one tiny notch on any knob can be the difference between a sound that’s rich and phat as fukk and one that’s totally feeble and messy

You ever wonder if anyone makes dubstep in pro tools?
