Rhythmic Interest 001 -- Broken Techno

Welcome to a new competition/challenge brought to you by @mks

The rules are simple. There is no sample pack for this one, you are free to use your own sounds and synths. The genre is Techno, 130-135bpm.

The goal is to challenge yourself to step outside of four on the floor and come up with some interesting rhythmic experimentation.

That’s all there is to it.

Think about the more tech side of Brokenbeat and the more rhythmically experimental side of Techno.

Think about D&B influenced Techno admixed with Electro, one of the true musical viruses of the 20th century.

Tolsof asked for some examples and some are hard to dig up because we are moving into uncharted musical territories although these concepts are not new.

Here is an EP from a Detroit Techno artist that was very influential on me for this type of concept:

Use 4 on the floor as a launching point. It doesn’t have to be in a different time signature ie 3/4 or 4/4.

What’s the vibe you want for this? Like is it still supposed to be dance music? Club? Brostep titties? Is it like vibe out in your buds basement? Or just listen alone?

Or is it for neck beards on a weird internet forum?

Cuz like right now I’m picturing a bunch of The Matrix nerds chilling in a basement smoking cigs
