SOUND WAR: Techno vs Dubstep - DSF Sample Pack Competition 51

I like those. A lot more conflicting than dubstep and techno imo.

I’ve got ideas for both as well. Looking forward to the pack :bluethumb:

DnB vs House sounds good.
Are differentiating between jungle & dnb? Eg. Has to be predominantly 2step instead of breaks.

Theres no set time frame between comps. Maybe give it a couple weeks? or longer?

I honestly don’t know the difference between the two lol

Couple weeks :worried:

I’ll be working on my v2 of this competition I suppose

jungle har more breaks as opposeed to dnb which is more drum machine based? idk I’m not an expert

2step DnB is more drums built from samples or from a drum machine. It has more of a defined feel
Jungle drums are built from a break, or cut up breaks. It’s more rolling (?)

2 step

Jungle

Drum n bass has film samples and jungle has Jamaican film samples

Yeah ignore what I said - this is the exact difference :lol_og:

Thank you (and everyone else) for the kind words.

Lots of great submissions here, really enjoyed making my tune and listening to what everyone else made.

Thank you for running it @sleeps

i thought it was as simple as dnb basslines being more part of the whole rhythm/structure of the track, and jungle basslines are more separate entities, and jungle is more breaks

I loved it when the breaks started coming back into DnB. That whole 2-step era was a bit bleak. Myself and many other homies retreated back to Jungle.

does anyone know any proper modern jungle? stuff that’s not based on nostalgia, obviously its gonna still part of the nuum, but idk, kinda shocks me to not see much in the realm actually moving forward. I guess it being part of nuum, an argument could be made for anything ‘new’ probably being another genre or something. Any new breaks? lol

nuum?

Hardcore Continuum

Some theory stuff by writers.

I don’t really know. I’ve taken what I have learned from then and have moved on. Although I will still bust out a DnB/Jungle track from time to time.

Sry, bit of a 5 panel truhed ting I guess lmao

Green Bay Wax are putting out a lot of jungle, but their vibe is definitely 90s amen. So new in the sense of produced recently.

I think the classic breaks are so synonymous and deeply ingrained with jungle that new breaks will never come thru. Im always on the prowl for a new break as i listen to a lot of metal, rock and hardcore and you sometimes get a break.

For me thats the only possible place for a new break as its the only place that still uses live drums

@swerver its always about the drums imo
@mks fully agree. That 1997 onwards period got really old really quickly. As soon as they started putting breaks back into 2step it revitalized. And then the darkside tumbling breaks era Renegade Hardware et al was fucking glorious.
