SOUND WAR: Techno vs Dubstep - DSF Sample Pack Competition 51

see I think it’s more you’re lack of knowledge of modern music rather than there not being any. funk, soul, afro beat etc as scenes are doing pretty well actually. your just not paying attention

Not in the slightest im well aware of it. I just think metal and rock and variations thereof is v popular right now and gets a lot more mainstream coverage and airplay as funk and soul did back in the earlier days of sampling. Imo it is more widely supported and therefore is a more ready source of modern breaks.

Just found this yesterday and there’s definitely some good samples in there. Especially vocals. Can’t remember if there’s any drum breaks tho

we went from “metal is only music with live drums these days” to “rock is so popular right now that it’s ready for sampling” m8 give up already…

Ok calm down mister word police. Jeez youre a fucking drag sometimes. If you want to be pedantic i clearly wrote “for me”

has any classic jungle break even been sampled from metal tho?

idk you’re probs better off listening to funk or soul or anything thats not been made by white af mascara wearing norwegians who wouldnt recognize a groove if it hit them in the face if you’re hunting for breaks to sample imho tbh bbq?

(can you tell i dont like metal much? :badteeth: )

Not on about classic breaks tho.
Am talking about finding new breaks from new music…

I didn’t mean to come across as if I was making remarks about youre grammar or something. Just thought you might like to reconsider your earlier statement about rock/metal being the only types of music that use actual drums nowadays.

Soz my bad. Thought were trying to be a prick. Hard to infer tone on here :hugs:

Perhaps i was unclear, i dont think metal is the only place using live drums, nor the only place to find sampleable live drums, yes funk soul etc are all healthy scenes, but for me, imo, at the minute, rock and metal etal it is a very rich, popular, varied and easily accessible goldmine from which to plunder.

Im blatantly just gonna draw for the amen tho :lol_og:

wouldnt discount “old” music though

i reckon there’s probs enough new (as in not sampled by anyone yet) breaks (or any samples really) to be found from old music tbf, there’s so much untapped obscure material we could stop making any new music and still have samples for years imo

Not discounting it, just looking at alternative sources that perhaps havent been fully utilised.

From now on im only going to use Vietnamese goregrind 7" singles and Pentecostal choir music from 2003 to 2006 as sample material.

I bought a vinyl compilation with Gregorian chants recorded in the 40’s or something, def gonna sample that for some bass heavy shit. One track is only a recording of someone playing a church organ. Super ambient.

I’m going to sample this. Not new though.

I’ve been working on my version 2 and have a pretty awesome beat, and a promising bass.

I’ve been thinking about refining my entry and not worrying about the sample restriction, I’m pretty happy with it as a track but I feel like some layering and stuff could really help with the drums
