Thought I’d make a catch-all thread pertaining to social media for producers including Soundcloud, YouTube, Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
I wanted to say three things:
a) I don’t get as many listeners or followers on Soundcloud as I used to. I had an account for three years that had about 500 followers and 15,000 plays at the end. I made a new account a year ago and it has 21 followers and a few hundred plays now. The Pareto principle may factor in, but I perceive that the previously observed decline in Soundcloud plays is continuing, either due to a waning popularity of Soundcloud, or because there is more competition on the platform now.
b) I get more plays on YouTube than on Soundcloud. About a week ago, I decided to not just throw a tune on Soundcloud, but also put it on YouTube. It has 2 plays on Soundcloud and 9 plays on YouTube, making me my first $0.01.
c) YouTube makes money. If I could make 1 cent a week for every tune I had on hard drive, I’d have a couple dollars a week. 
You don’t get that from Soundcloud.
Is this consistent with your observations?
