genre = the scene itself, a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like
sub genre = idea, alternative, substitute to - ( so not a further categorisation/ category within a category)

Interesting but I’ve never heard anyone use it that way, so seems like an odd way to use the term. Idk if that’s just me

Genre - style of music / Drum & Bas
Subgenre - variations on the theme / Liquid, tearout, jumpup, etc

Yeah I agree that’s how I’ve always seen subgenre used so it seems weird to assert another definition

No, thats what I meant. I thought sub genre meant sub category but it means alternate.
Also that the word genre includes/ actually means the scene itself.

it just means everyone is using it wrong lol
