What's your guys' opinion on follow to download?

like to download is very different because you’ll have to put up with people’s shit on the chaos that is, Facebook. Follow to download on soundcloud is okay ish-? for me.

Don’t draw conclusions like that, you probably haven’t heard any of my music, and I don’t want you to. Who would want such blatant hate.

I have thought about watermarking, but I hate that myself - I’m not really trying to sell my tracks right now. That will be a thing of the distant future. I listen to a lot of music on soundcloud and a watermark right before the drop really ruins the immersion for me. Plus, I don’t have that many followers so that would look incredibly needy.

I stand by my original comment.

Yeah, I totally agree with you… If I download a track I’ll probably end up following people after all, facebook and twitter postwalls are pretty bad…

You can make it a musical watermark, lots of producers do.

Btw Inverted Silence, have you ever googled Soundcloud Download?
(Your) Soundcloud songs are not that protected.

Fuck follow to download lol. If I like the music I’ll play it out in clubs / radio. People listening to your music don’t owe you shit and vice-versa. If you decide to make a track publicly available then that’s your decision. Put a price tag on it if you want, but a stupid follow isn’t a price I’d pay lol. Much rather paypal the artist 2 quid than indulge in someone’s self-degrading social media antics.

Yeah I know this, I sometimes I use it to bypass like to download. But as I said usually I end up following people anyway and it’s just a reminder to me, just like how youtubers ask for a like at the end of their video.

so cringe doe

I see this a little differently though…this is someone directly asking to support them and and it is unrelated to access of content. Adding a like or follow to download is still requesting a payment of some nature so it isn’t free music.

Didn’t Datsik require a follow for is Katana remix comp? I might be wrong about who it was but it seems like recently someone did that. I was really put off by someone not having a lack of followers requiring a follow to access the remix stems. That basically says…this competition is about marketing…fk your tracks. Truth be told…remix comps are 100% marketing but asking for follows on top of it? meyah.

I purchase a lot of music from independent musicians on bandcamp. I dont see SoundCloud or Facebook as vaible platforms to find music I like. So, I guess its a none issues for me.

This probably. I don’t see why that’s a bad thing though?

^ I think this is for the best to be honest. SoundCloud’s war on copyright material has made it a bad platform for electronic music…you know…the music founded on sampling. This will make a good tipping point for a SC exodus to a better platform.

I 100 agree with this, but it’s like how facebook is a bad form of social media, we all know this, but nobody has switched to something else. And facebook knows this

Okay cool, but “follow to download”-mechanics are still bad and make whoever’s using them look immature.
