Gonna install it today. Tried to get started in Ableton before but it just didn’t work…
Hey guys, recently switched to Live 10 from Logic pro
Loving it for the most part but I’m wondering if anyone knows of a decent drum kit VST, by that i mean something with recordings of real drum hits. What I particularly miss from Logic is some of the built in drum kit’s that could give you really accurate representations of hi hats. Allowing you to get convincing results when messing around with the velocity of each midi note. I’m aware of the ‘session kit’ thats already loaded onto Ableton but it doesn’t quite sound as ‘real’ as some of the Logic kits.
If anyone has any suggestions I’d be grateful. (Free is even better but i understand thats probs a bit of a stab in the dark lol)
Why did you make the switch dude?
Record the logic drum kit and use the samples in abletons drum rack
Or just load up a drum rack in ableton with nice drum sounds
@cyclopian Don’t get me wrong the drum rack is totally sick and I find it way better than Logic for constructing drum kits/racks out of my fav one shots etc which I will use for most of my drums in tracks. The main thing is for hi hats, even with velocity sensitivity turned all the way up it doesent match the preset’s in logic for which the same hi hat had been played and recorded multiple times. Resulting in a far more convincing sound of a real hi hat. I had tried recording the Logic drum kit and sampling it through ableton with like 5 different levels of velocity but sounded no where near as good.
@Hibbie I loved logic but a few of my friends who used Ableton convinced me to give it a go and I ended up really getting on with it, I love how when you have a channel selected you don’t have multiple windows up for all the different effects, everything is neat and contained, the drum rack is sick and better than what Logic offers in that part and also I’m developing a live set, Ableton seems to have better options for this with the use of APC’s etc Overall tho I wouldn’t say Logic is and worse or Ableton is ‘better’ I just personally prefer the way it looks and operates. I will miss some of the built in instruments tho lol
Oh I see what you mean, you’re talking about round robin sampling
I’ve done round robin sampling in ableton but it’s a big effort tbh.
There are plenty of drum vst that do what you’re talking about. I don’t know them tho because I make shoddy techno
Looks like I was being super lazy/googling the wrong words. I think I’ve found one now that should suit
thanks tho!
Yes, there is XLN Addictive Drums, which a lot of people rate. I almost got it, but decided to explore other options first.
Ableton’s own Session Drums is actually pretty good.
the free version of Stephen Slate Drums 5 is pretty decent, it’s only got 1 stock drum kit because it’s the freeware version but it sounds v good
thanks for the recommendation’s guys, I will check them out!
Toon Track’s superior drummer is good too
i got ableton 9… is there anything that will radically improve my productions if i switch to 10? Only thing i really want atm is the 24/48 function on the autofilters and thats it.
yeah there’s a few new fx units and a new synth that’s pretty sick as well as a few other things they’ve tightened up and improved, I think it’s way better than 9 tbh
What made me switch, and not go back:
Crispier and generally improved interface (press A for showing/hiding automation lanes)
Improved browser
Groups within groups
Also, Live 10 Enhancement suite adds a ton of additional workflow improving functionality:
https://enhancementsuite.me/
Among others:
Press mousewheel for panning around the project
Adds an extra menu to your cursor when you double press right mouse button, where you can add your fav synths/effects
Ctrl+W to close plugin windows
Alt+E to show automation lanes within a clip
life changing
never heard of that enhancement suite before, features looks dope but the site looks like straight early 2010’s malware software download vibes haha
I know, the only thing is that you have to follow the creators on twitter to get a DL-link.
