Pthalo Blue ![]()
Hell ye. Gonna be interesting to try these out, now when I have all the primary colours. Can mix all kinds of different colours and tones, with a bit of finesse. I wanna try to hatch/crosshatch some clouds or sky scenes with pen & ink, then add some of these colours on top. Also jungles, deserts and ancient temples. And more of that macabre vibe like in the pic in the last post, but with colours too. Super cool media combo to work with, since these inks are water-soluble before they dry. You can get so many shades and also layer them and shit.
how much did these set you back? these thud rumble cartridges are quite pricey as i recall
525 NOK (approx £38) each for the needles. I think I got the pair of pickups with the OG needles for around 2k NOK or so, many years ago. Possibly a bit more, can’t remember exactly. It’s the first time I’ve had to replace them, so if you take care of them, they’ll last.
these thud rumbles one are made for scratching too, they can take a beating
(on a completely different yet vaguely relevant note, i dont regret at all that i spent countless hours trying to build barely competent scratching skills when i first got turntables only for scratch to become the epitome of hip hop dad rock
, showing up at the pearly gates like “so what did you achieve? well i guess i could do a vaguely convincing crab scratch if the arthritis hadnt got me?”)
i wish i could go back in time and tell 20 years old me: “sir, siiiiiir, scratching is never going to get you any pussy ever, take that money you want to invest in a turntable and put it in some stocks of that gay online bookstore called amazon”
Yeah, they sure can. But the amount of beating they’ve taken on all of the gigs I’ve played over the years is… substantial, to say the least. Considering my own (and other people’s) drunken/drugged up handling of them, I’m surprised they lasted as long as they did. They still worked ok, but I chose to donate them to the record shop when I got these new ones. I have an upcoming gig at a friend’s small festival next weekend, so I thought that was a good reason to finally replace them.
big up for playing out on vinyl in big 2025, you bringing out your own gear or just needles and records and hoping the setup is going to work?
got sort of turned off trying to find gigs after god knows how many time i showed up with a heavy bag of records only for the vinyl setup to be completely busted and having to cancel or cut my set short because of some technical issue
I’m bringing my pair of Technics SL-1200MK2 players. They got soundsystem and mixer.
This shit is unfortunately common yeah, very lame. This is why you soundcheck, so gear can be replaced in time (if there’s backup gear available ofc). Most bars doing vinyl over here care about their gear working, and their reputation, but I’ve experienced a lot of fucked setups too. I’ve always brought my own cartridges to gigs, I just see that as professional courtesy in the trade.
Speaking of soundsystems, we’ve started building our own now. 18” sub elements and Paraflex design cabinets. Gonna be interesting to hear how they sound this Saturday, when we throw our next party. Bit scary though, I hope nothing fucks up haha.
I had these styli on those cartridges before.
with the skin colored pants at first glance i thought dude in the first pic was taking a shit
Slav squat, gopnik style.
need another angle to assess heel position, doesnt look like standard true form
He’s Russian, his stance is legit. You know what they say…
Heels in sky, Western spy.

Keep the political banter outta my thread lol, we got enough of that shit in literally any other thread on here.
