Burial

Lol yeah…

His new stuff is far from terrible - I do enjoy listening to his longer new stuff but if you wanna sit and compare anything he’s done recently to his two albums you’re always going to be bitterly disappointed.

At this point expecting him to release anything like he was doing 15 years ago is your own fault.

Ok 100% objectively. Disregarding his entire back-cat, i think this release is terrible. The production is awful, the tracks are about 5 minutes too long, they’re unimaginative and pedestrian.

And at 41 i am so far past worrying about what is “cool”.
:lol_og:

His stuff can take some critique for how much praise his early work got
nothing wrong in that

its more like expecting something, than its about thinking its cool to not like it

For what it’s worth, I’m all for artists moving on to new things and just not rehashing the same tracks that got them attention in the first place - I’d much rather them make something they actually like, and there’s plenty of artists who have evolved and regardless of whether or not I’m into it, I can appreciate the quality behind it. I just find burials stuff from the last couple years uninspired

Who knows, maybe I’ll come back to it all in like 5 years and find a new appreciation for it - but so far I’m struggling to get much enjoyment out of it

Edit - inb4 someone says I’ve already posted this exact point before

You gotta assume he’s put out stuff under other aliases right? Like he finishes some techno tune on ableton and he goes aw shit gotta put crackles and samples on now, nah lemme just use some alias

Im so happy i got to live through and discover Burial’s early days. It changed music for me forever, to the point where i keep unopened copies of it.

Don’t remember this coming out

Got the email, didn’t buy. Pretty nice though.

A lot of people bigged it up, I said I’d listen to it but never did. So basically the same thing with every burial release for years and years now :cornlol:

Yeah I don’t think I’ll bother. Soon as I saw 9+ minute tracks I know what it’ll be like

first burial release i copped in a while

he’s def never gonna top the first two albums at this point but as far as ambient-ish stuff goes i thought it was pretty good, esp compared to some of the crap he released these past few years tbh

would recommend giving it a listen

its more that his drum work has been atrocious since he got out of soundforge or whatever it was that happened

so that tunes of his with less drum stuff, automatically elevate themselves

its decent tho

would love if he got really into ambient

nerd alert :

but he doesn’t have that sense of space in his tunes needed for that yet - this is more like beatless something
