The Dekmantel crew did it again, what a great weekend we’ve had… Robert Hood with the set of the festival for me, the BR stage was full of energy. The Hessle guys went nuts as well in The Lab on sunday, I don’t think I can recall a set of theirs where they were having so much fun on stage. I will definitely be there again next year, although I sincerely hope they can keep the crowd as it has been for the last years with all the hype surrounding the festival.
what a flawless weekend (other than the damage to my bank account)… out to liam, harkat, and their homie, was such a good crew.
kicking myself for not seeing a few acts like Robert hood or dozzy (was also late for randomer and Anthony Naples due to security…) but I really can’t complain. personal highlights for me were probably Shackleton, mills, tessela vs untold, hessle, nina, actress, Helena hauff
2016 will be a must, hope to see some more of you next year
Not to sound like a total neanderthal + this festival sounds great but do you lot not get tired of relentless 4x4 for 3 days & nights?
you had machinedrum, luke vibert, andy stott, madlib etc as well and there was different sorts of 4x4. Warm funky shit and dark pummeling shit and uplifting anthemy shit
Ah didn’t clock Vibert or Madlib - this is based off the overwhelming amount of videos/reviews i’ve seen posted mainly.
I guess if you’re into that vibe it seems like paradise I just could never hack a set of maybe more than 90 mins 4x4 even when off my bean - just get gagging for a little 2-step eventually - feel free to rinse me out by all means tho
A lot of the stuff generally lumped in with “4x4” isn’t really 4x4, but rhythmically more diverse… Take the Ilian Tape catalog or for example, Hessle guys, Andy Stott, Livity Sound fam etc. all play very diverse stuff, connected through similar textures and vibe rather than 4x4 kick drums.
People like Lucy playing the same record for six hours straight is a different matter altogether imo.
Wasn’t all 4x4, had Untold & Tessela playing more breaky type stuff, J Rocc & Madlib playing hip-hop and funk, good bit of MCDE and Palms Trax was disco kinda stuff, Roy Ayers with live band, Squarepusher, Four Tet played some grime, Machinedrum. Mainly 4x4 I guess, but there’s variety there if you look for it and variety in the house & techno too. I guess it’s just really my kinda thing
in terms of non-4x4, objekt and juan atkins played loads of electro, hessle guys switched it up with every track and shackleton was unbelievably good. plus there’s loads of disco that got played which was non-4x4.
highlights of the weekend were objekt and young marco–the guy kills it with every tune
favourite track was this which the hessle trio dropped pitched down as their last tune, definitely got a bit emotional inside… then played manix - feel real good as an encore to finish off the weekend!
I didn’t think Hood’s set was that special? Aside from him brining his daughter along
and playing a b2b of course. Maybe now everyone will stop calling Vath “papa Sven”.
Maybe it’s just that I’ve seen Hood quite a few times in the past two years.
@Brek The crowd has already changed quite a bit compared to the first edition.
That’s part of the reason why they are using the pre-registration system. I reckon
it isn’t going to hurt the vibe easily though.
Fair points all round would’ve loved to have seen Shackleton & Stott
Well, you have to expect that with all those rave reviews as of day one. I only went the last two editions, and what I noticed (I think) was the increasing amount of French people (and more nationalities in general). Also, certainly less bra wearing this time around…
also REALLY liked J Rocc’s set, it was just so much fun!
The increasing amount of French visitors is one of the organization’s main
worries, just second to the weather.
I heard they will be setting up escargot snare traps.
yes french people are really really bad
Allez la technoooo
French (and especially Parisian) techno fans are the worst. closed-minded well off hipsters working in communication that won’t listen to anything else or realise that bragging about their vinyl, drugs and love for analogue gear won’t have anyone forget they jumped on Berghain techno 2 years ago when it suddenly became the new cool thing here (and will leave it as soon as a new trend appears)
Stay calm, it’s everywhere the same.
Except for Zurich, where people are still listening to the same saxophone sample pack tech house gash. Can’t wait for Berghain loops to become cool here tbh.
^still better than electro/big room shit that what people listen to in norway
don’t expect much…
shed is a good producer and that’s it… he’s rubbish live/dj set.
What a set this was!!
makes me feel just a little better about missing him, then again hearing thirstin get dropped doesn’t help either
