Tbf the cleanest one is alpha imo so it would probably still be winning no matter where it was.
Which also points out another thing: the wildly different bases on which we rank these.
It seems that this being a production forum, most people are rating the tunes with the most polish or that’d work in a paid club set… But is that what makes a tune good? Or kneejerk genre voting (which I’m guilty of in the negative; it is 97% certain you’ll never catch me voting for a four on the floor number, irie steppers excepted) - how many of us scroll through, play 10-30 seconds, maybe scrub ahead a little, and then pick the one in the style closest to what you make/like/rate without evaluating other merits?
My point being - aside from bellyaching over the lack of love my tune is getting (
) - that this is and always has been kind of a free for all, and that’s cool. It is what it is. I’m just trying to understand the bigger meta-ethic driving these because the old maxim of
- good tune, 2) good performance, 3) good recording = 4) great song doesn’t seem to apply here. Catchy numbers are not in demand - slick wow and zazzle seem to be the hot commodity. Which is interesting in itself as a reflection of larger trends…
And: could Jesus microwave a burrito so hot that even He himself could not eat it?

Tbf I didn’t vote for a. Don’t really want to say which ones I voted for but casted my votes for the ones that I felt did something interesting with the samples given.
That’s the mindset I went into when I made my track and I felt that was how voting should be done (I didn’t vote for my track tho cuz I agree with RKM)

Thanks for everyone who took part, variety was pretty on point. Particularly fan of Kilo, and Lima had some great jungle vibes in it.
Thing went as smoothly as could be expected for our first one back. I’ll consider doing a groups system next time if we’ve got this many entries to ensure a bit more of an even keel (oversight on my part) and hopefully we won’t have any issues with tracks being withdrawn halfway through.

lol I can finally talk about how embarrassed I am re: that mixdown. it was never good but when i was shortening it to 5 mins late at night i decided to make some questionable tweaks and really fucked it. thanks everyone who looked past that and voted for it anyways lol (must be all the “slick wow and zazzle” huh)
