DSF57 Production Competition - KOSMISCHE

Alreet ladies, how’s the tunes coming on?
Pretty stoked with mine, but really struggling with the mix

1 BigUp

I’ve got an idea for mine. I’ve been sick the past week and not up for anything tho unfortunately. Should be able to finish it up soon tho

I got a beat made but no intro or outro. Making beats is kinda difficult. Not gonna lie.

Mine is essentially finished. May add aother bar or two to the end to round it out.
This mix is killing me though. Fucking synths cover so much of the frequency range

Half-step 110?

110 with the snare predominantly on the 2 and 4
Might add a snare-on-the-3 section for that je ne sais quoi.
Or a halftime section. Haltime sounds sick tbh.
55bpm.
Or maaaaaybe, a halftime snare-on-the-3 section.

Doesn’t matter anyway coz the mix is dogshit.

Aaaand I’m done.
This mix is doing my head in. I don’t think I’m making any progress, just tweaking things back and forth.
So it is what it is.

Dun giv way 2 much bro, we’ll be able to spot yer anonymous choon lol.

I have two radically different workflows happening atm and need to pick one.

First workflow is similar to the one used last comp and is way organic but managing any kind of deliberate arrangement is fuckin’ dumb.

Second workflow is basically the OG setup w dots and loops as it were, but have figured out some new tricks recently.

Mainly listening to Can, Amon Düül 2, Ash Ra Tempel for inspiration tho. Would recommend.

is this a Krautrock comp? I thought it was anything goes?

1st post says any genre.

1 BigUp

Any genre but using the Krautrock pack.

2 subs so far.

I haven’t had the mental/physical energy to work on this unfortunately. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish up soon

1 BigUp

No worries dude. Deadline is 28th Feb so plenty of time

Yeah, anything goes. Sorry if that was confusing.

Just listening to those bands tho - even tho my shit’s not gonna sound like actual 1970s Krautrock, those bands in particular have such a wide range of sounds between them - not like niche electronic music where a genre is comprised of a 10 bpm difference, but like actual variety. There’s everything from noise to ambient to proto-metal to groovy jazzy to just weird kraut doots making weird sounds with a lot of different techniques… often all on the same album lol.

TLDR it s a rich genre with a lot to offer the patient listener.

Anyway had trouble w the bass but think I’ve finally engineered a solution. Gonna get back to this tonight. Hoping to finish this week.

EDIT: I forked up and have two parallel things going on that sound nothing alike but each has potential. Gaaaah. :man_facepalming:
