FREE STUFF (ᴘʟᴜɢ-ɪɴs, sᴀᴍᴘʟᴇs, ᴇᴛᴄ.)

Everything designed, owned and charged for by Apple Inc works iirc.
Really the only pro of Mac imho (I’ve never owned an Apple product).

Everything about MacOS is a “pro”. There is 0 downside to running one.

There’s enough 64 bit plugins about that I don’t need to fanny around with 32s

I haven’t used 32 bit plugins for years.

I’m running a few Audio Damage plugins so they should be 64 bit. Most of them I’d imagine. I haven’t looked yet.

Running one, fair. Used Macs in high school a lot, rarely ran into problems. BUYING one is my biggest gripe. Triple the price for half the specs does not really float my boat.

I don’t mind talking about this stuff at all, but maybe in Production Thoughts thread? We have left the “Free Stuff” area of on-topic discussion.

I had to find 64 bit replacements when I got a new mac. Thankfully I only had 3 or 4 32bit plugins so nothing was massively affected. Still a ball ache though

You should learn what the specs actually mean then. When a processor takes 3 instructions to do the same thing that takes another processor only 2 instructions to do, the second system is running 33.3% more efficiently.

So comparing numbers of actual instructions/calculations measured in GigaHertz is comparing like comparing Cucumbers and Pickles.

I have worked in IT way too long to decide to use a Windows NT based system over a Unix system, ever. This should be obvious as the nose on your face to anyone

Money is another issue. Think about it this way; say you love supercars. Someone asks “do you prefer the Ferrari, or the Lambo”? Are you going to sticker shop your decision, or is it really easy?

I get your point, though personally I use almost 0 plugins, so the compatibility/stability argument does not really apply to me. Most of my shit is done 100% with Reason stock plugs, or recorded from hardware. I think I’ve had Reason crash 1 time where I’ve actually lost anything in like 14 years, so I’m pretty happy with the stability.

There is of course a lot to say about Reason’s inherent problems and stupid design choices, as well as the direction the company has been taking the last few years. Been oogling other (arguably “better/more modern”) DAWs lately because of these things.

You probably have some kind of anti-malware software running 100% of the time?

How about a CryptoLocker/Ransomware? Ever fixed that on a Mac? lol

I don’t think I have any illicit software running on this machine, it’s all been bought and paid for. So again, a non-issue.

A Crypto Locker has nothing to do with if you pay for software. You don’t even need to do anything to have ransomware/other hacking attempts.

All your computer has to do is respond to the first ping from a port scan. If it has WiFi, it doesn’t even need to be connected to the internet to get hacked.
Running software to prevent that is the answer. One that occupies your processor.

Ok nerd lol. I’m too tired for this convo, sorry. I’m not a tech wizard, but I also never have had any probs, as I said. Might look into these things a bit more when I get a new desktop. Laptops have never been my thing.

Well, like I said; some boards moderators don’t like Off-Topic postings, so let’s continue the conversation elsewhere, should further discussion serve a purpose

I am trying to think of some free things to put in this one.

There should be a Mac vs PC thread somewhere.

It’s prolly called Hipsters vs Noobs or something similar.

The real reason most PC users do not like Macs is because their first exposure to them makes them feel stupid. It’s because of Apple clinging to the whole 1 button mouse shit. If a PC users first experience with a Mac had a standard 2 button mouse, they wouldn’t make people feel uncomfortable right off the bat.

Just keep writing in the Apple thread @mks found and revived dude.

I guess we can change the name of it too, as is the way things are done here.

I have many macbooks as well as a desktop PC
