Gear Lust Part 7

He usually does not share any news about anything until things are officially revealed. But then again, I think he sometimes receives pre-production versions of new gear, to be able to make reviews/demos the same day said gear is revealed to the public.

Oh my bad, Macintosh Operating System or PC (stands for Personal Computer usually shorthand for Microsoft Windows Operating System of some variant). These are the two most typically used operating systems for personal computers and have the widest variety of commercially available applications. In this case we are talking about Digital Audio Workstations, or DAW’s for short. These are used in a wide variety of tasks related to music and audio recording, production, creation, editing and post production. The “Overbridge” protocol developed by Swedish manufacturer Elektron Music Machines allows DAW integration for synchronization, control and bi-directional audio transfer with their standalone desktop hardware musical instruments. In many users experiences, this “Overbridge” protocol can perform differently depending on which Operating System the user is using for their Personal Computer. Hopefully that clarifies the question?

So excited for this one. The comb filter and chorus are really going to open up sound design. Got my pre-order in and hoping it will be here this weekend

Anything specific features you’re excited about that isn’t already covered in your setup? Excited about the DT2 personally as it seem to have all the things I missed from the DT1

I like Digitakt much more as a sampler than the Octatrack. OT is amazing for a lot of things but in terms of sitting down with a box to make music, it’s never my first choice. I mostly use it as a performance mixer to add fx and glitches to stuff running through it or for atmospheric soundscape type stuff. The DT is just super fast and fun to use for sampling. It also has a much wider range for transposing samples. You don’t need to sacrifice a track for master compression like you do on OT. DT2 with 16 stereo tracks, three filters per track, overdrive, BRR and SRR per track, 3 audio rate capable lfo’s seems like a sound design powerhouse. Dt1 was already really good at that, my track for the household sounds sample pack was completely done on the Digitakt resampling over and over. Topped off with the greatly enhanced memory and storage space makes it the perfect quick inspirational sampler for me

Me and my mates used to blaze shitty soapbar and make Music2000 tunes prob the year before we all got actually into djing and fruity. Formative as hell

Yeah same, ejay and then music 2000 were pretty crucial for me too

How?

Well I was 20, lived in a tiny Cornish village, didn’t know anything about making music, didn’t have any money to buy any gear even if I did, didn’t have any mates, and it was a good entry point for me.

Why??

Well, age is a linear process so becoming 20 was inevitable, I didn’t have any access to finding out about making music so had no knowledge, I had a minimum wage job so could not afford gear, I had no mates coz I gave everything up to move to Cornwall to live with a girl which ended up being a whole abusive mess, and being able to tinker with ejay and music 2000 was a good way to start figuring out the basics and realising that making music was something I could enjoy.

oh ok

ngl I’m fascinated by Cornish history atm, on a related tangent. Also: if a place w weather like the Scillies exists why would anyone live anywhere else in the UK?

Wait that’s not gear talk. Sorry, move along.

Cornish folklore is lit.

That sucks. :embarassed:

i dont think we are that far off in age, but my descent into pure techno-fascination with sound happened a bit later for me. I even played with a copy of the game when it actually came out and was non-plussed lol, the homie that owned it made beats for Andre Nickatina and also intro’d me to FL, but i didnt really get it. I was born a listener of music and an enjoyer of it

Years later and filming skate videos and raving and selecting music and trying to get the edits to mesh well…I got it: oh i can do this!

Organized sound has never been my forte tbh

I’m 44 :older_man:

I guess if you had mates making beats and were around FL etc then yeah Music2000 was probably weak af :lol_og: I knew “proper” music wasn’t made on a playstation, and it all seemed hugely esoteric so I just assumed it wasnt for me. I only really took it seriously when I started mooching around the forum tbh
