Yes, itā€™s a fm groovebox

Made some edits.
Electro house is tough for me to master. Sidechain on the bass makes it feel super empty, also havenā€™t worked with big unruly bass sounds in a long time:

This one Iā€™m beginning to really like:

I wasnā€™t allowed to respond yesterday, post limit, but just want to say the fact this is made on hardware is fuckin RADICAL brother. Very cool.

Itā€™s FM (Frequency Modulation) which is digital, itā€™s literally in the name haha. I assume you mean itā€™s hardware. I mean, you can physically make FM with analogue waves too, but itā€™sā€¦ not really a thing, due to the complexity.

Iā€™m a total hardware scrub guy itā€™s all synthesis to me :joy::joy::joy:

im going to be honest with you (just my opinion)

that house tune i dont like at all the synth sounds really odd and not pleasant at all also song is very mono which i guess isnt bad but usually with this kind of music you want more width in the midrange

the dubstep song is cool but i think you need some width with the distortion and the frequency of the distortion you have left in doesnā€™t suite the sub. it sounds separate and i donā€™t like that bit sample weird noise in there

also the sub is changing volume abit too much

summary 1st tune i dislike
2nd tune good but needs tweaking

sorry man it feels harsh but just being honest

1 BigUp

Nah thatā€™s fine, pretty realistic about what Iā€™m doing here, the house tune is super fun but I wanted to make a deep house toon.
Not quite there yet as far as certain skills.

Hard to seat that bass in the mix and remains to be seen if i can even do it, itā€™s cool to be making stuff just for fun/to acquire skills though. I feel similarly, all my friends love this one lmao.
Interesting you say itā€™s mono though I actually applied a short time St delay which widened it a lot. Iā€™m getting reacclimatized to making basses with synth sounds rather than sample processing and layering, itā€™ll come.

Think the sub on the dubby one needs more push, would like to swap between using the disto 808 and the crowd synth for the main bass, but I think that sound may be too melodic. Kinda putting this one on pause till I get an idea because thereā€™s not that much technical stuff to do outside of mix.

As for that sound you donā€™t like, I really like it. Would like to clean that up, but maybe should use it sparingly and rely on the bass a bit more. Sounds like cartoons lol.
The distorted 808 is on key on my end Iā€™m not sure what youā€™re hearing, both of these were mastered in headphones so if itā€™s on your phone or monitors it could explain why Iā€™m not hearing some of your critiques in my buds

The structure definitely needs more tweaking.

I do not hear what youā€™re saying on the changing sub volume though.

im sure alot of people would give me shit for saying this but if your having trouble with the bass i just sidechain it no phase problems with the kick and bass then also if you want the sub to come through abit more increase the attack, then put a pitch transpose envelope and lower the amount so its just a little thump use the main sound volume enevelope attack to remove the aggressiveness of it

just a quick example

if you have alot of midrange in there i suggest hpf all the harmonic content too.

i need to reread the other stuff you said too hold on a min lol

Oh the synth in that electro track is heavily side chained already. Whatā€™s creating that weird sound is that itā€™s downsampled rather than distorted, Iā€™ll need to explore less degrading distortion to bring that out.

As for the sub, on the house track itā€™s all coming from one instance of albino, so an obvious first step is to make a separate instance to run a fuller, cleaner sub.

For the dubstep song the sub is an 808 boom which is doubled, one is high passed and heaaaavily distorted, likely I will create a better sub for that in albino so I can do more with it.

I donā€™t know if the thumping sub will fit the dub track but Iā€™ll definitely try that while Iā€™m working on the electro one!

maybe the length of the sub notes on the dub bassline shorten them at the end with a release?

also i just ran the audio through my daw so the distorted 808 you have no harmonics below 900hz which is why it sounds werid to me maybe you went abit overboard with the hpf.

also i did the club toilet test on your sub the kick is interfering a lot with the sub and has too much punch in the 100-200 range maybe lower the low subs on the kick, but regardless sub sound ok but would be better if it was ā€œcleanerā€

oh with the elctro house tune i dont have much experience with it so im not going to comment anymore about that track

Ah yeah chucked some distortion gain on the kick to cut through right before rendering out, maybe swap for compression, needs EQing.

Cheers for doing all that, I need to be more studied in my frequencies, Iā€™ll try to lower the cut on the disto 808 and maybe glue them together a bit more on the bus. Iā€™ll try to get some of the harmonics out of that weird sound and see what it sounds like.

Taking tonight off from this gotta get serious in boxing for a bit, fights coming up next monthšŸ˜¤ too easy to skip training to work on these lmao.

Of the two tracks the dubby one is definitely my favorite, but Iā€™m itching to get the intro and bass on that electro track in check.

those riffs are too much fun to lose because of my skill level lol

Fantastic, technical feedback. Missed being on the boards with technicians. Thanks man

oh man i am definitely not a technician lol but thank you i take it as a compliment

good luck with your upcoming fight yeah mate focus on your training i used to box got too many injuries now just gym

yeah hopefully see if this works better if you do abit of eq adjustments :+1:

nice sound man good textures like the high hats and the snare, also the atmospheric pads/ reverb. like the use of distortion in this

trying a different way of mixing lately just clipping the master and if i hear audible distortion i turn shit down. instead of this -6db bullshit. also just uploading to soundcloud at 0db fuck it doesnt even sound bad. soundcloud sounds bad anyway

Mix sounds really clean. Love those low accents on the bass. The strings are going crazy too, great stuff man. Would consider doing some sidechaining to those strings on the kick to give some variety to the atmosphere.

There was that bass climb around 2:15 I feel like could be used more sparingly and expanded on. The sound doesnā€™t have quite as much going on imho as the rest of the track, feel like it could be more ambitious.
That single riff is the only thing holding this one back and thatā€™s just my opinion. The part itā€™s in is already repeating and vibey so Iā€™d try to get more impact/momentum from the changeup. Even a break followed by a drum fill would probably change the flow enough

1 BigUp

yeah i know what you mean i need to kick my self up the arse with the arrangement its my least favourite bit even though its the main bit lol

i did sidechain the strings but i couldnt seem to get it right for some reason even changing release settings etc so it is sidechaining but not noticeable in the mix as for the kick iā€™ve noticed i like it hidden these days

i know it sounds weird but i use to do these loud and trappy kicks all the time i just like short transients now with less high end, i still keep just a little bit but to my ears i had to eq it with a high amount of db reduction. i know its wrong but lately i got a punk rockish attitude to things fuck it.

guarantee ill change my mind in future but yeah the track could be better but its decent enough for a filler track. lost the emotion behind it during the end and thought im done with it so exported it and upload. going test it on mixer later see what its like blended with another track

thansk for input though i agree with you 100 percent :+1:
