tbf mate the second listen i’m starting to like it more now lol, i dont know its up to you at the end of the day. i would keep working at it its nearly there but like you i dont know whats wrong with it maybe i’m just not used to the droning???
sub is fine for me btw but change it up somehow in second half. honestly myself personally wouldnt give up on it even though its doing your head in lol
Just don’t be gentle with me lol, I’ve made a lot of music of varying caliber, can definitely cook up less weird stuff, but getting back into it after a long hiatus, trying to explore stuff that scratches my brain differently.
Really glad it sets in a little better on repeat listens! That’s something I also noticed while making it.
There won’t be another attempt at Dronestep this idea very specifically only worked here and I’m not sure why.
Working with an absolutely ridiculous concept I call “implicit melodic content”. Ain’t much going on but for me at least, I hear notes and strings and stuff in that second drop. Gonna make something different and revisit it!
Your input makes a lot of difference! Your music is great and i respect your opinion
thank you mate nah honestly the song just confuses me it sounds good the more i listen but its confusing to begin with so its not bad. yeah fair enough best way to experiment!
thank you appreciate it i’ll follow you on sc for your releases, its peaked my interest
Looking for mix feedback, yes I know it needs loudening. better song structure will come with future iterations
Intro sounds like filth, drop into Joker style bass. Probably stay in that realm rather than go hi tech.
Kinda sounds epic, some interesting sound design I think, can’t work on it at work so just hoping to get that second opinion:
lol, posting music until someone else posts or gives feedback
This is crazy fun to make.
Want to extend the more deep house part into its own deep house drop and then make a second drop for what’s here
My computer can only run one instance of albino, tell me if I need to resample or if you think I can use that sound with automation the whole time.
like the clicky kick. drums could be a tiny bit more swingier/off the grid to give it a more natural flow. try make the different screech wobs different duration and modulation to give it that au naturel vibe
That’s what I was thinking! Versatile synth, I’ll get something good for sure.
Then for the drums i actually intentionally quantized them but I do think you’re right they’re too rigid, I’ll try to cut up some breaks or something to make the electro bit a bit swingier
I struggle with trying to find that natural swing/groove with a grid system. its so easy to put things where youve learnt there supposed to go, I do that all the time. I’ve recently (last night lol) found the patience to keep repeating the loop/moving the notes till it sounds natural. I dunno theres a kinda coolness or unnhh vibe when the drums have the right amount of space between each other. like a kick with a big gap followed by a click and then quick kick before a snare. gives it that sounds like its whipped back into place.
love the drum programming on this. makes my hands and head move mad to it
I usually implement quite a bit of swing but this in particular just felt good rigid, I can probably even automate the swing so the during the electro bit it kinda feels like the drums are becoming less organized? Seems like a cool idea to me.
I love drums man, there’s some pretty okay drum work further down my SC page I think, 2step and house rhythms that are a little complex. I’ll check out the song you posted
After going to bed and waking up that bass is SO DRY god dammit
i’ve been doing this for the last 2 years but sometimes i forget but when i do it theres a huge difference. every snare or percussion whatever i’ll move it to the left or right about by a few ms to change the phase of the drums how they react with the song. supposed to sound more human aint it
i love syncopation as well but sometimes go over the top with it, but i just say to myself its my style lol like old grime instrumentals. where the clap is going where ever the fuck it wants
havent tried it that much with kick maybe i should start doing that, i only do it when making chill boom bap beats. like you said right before the snare gives it that bounce
the strings i would make it more prominent than the distorted bass, or maybe eq the distorted bass remove some of the highs or 300-400 hz but either way theres some frequency masking going on. i wouldnt really now unless it was in my daw
This is the single reason I’ve ever considered getting a midi beatpad.
Quantizing hats to swing tempo is easier but it doesn’t flow the way it should over a whole track, my track on sc “inna out” has an errant high hat that made me so frustrated that I took a break from it lol.
Once you hear a badly syncopated hat in your song you simply cannot unhear it.
A beatpad would definitely streamline the process of fixing that
I feel like another song on my SC that illustrates GOOD swing in a two step and house beat, is fracture. I’m so proud of those drums man.
yeah i liked them songs on sc yesterday good drums. on inna out i didnt even notice it and cant so maybe its a you thing haha.
man i’m fucking terrible the way i produce i dont know any music theory well i do but dont know much of the terminology for what they are. still dont fully understand chords etc.
i do all my production unless its a competition/remix with midi, on a small little keyboard
i just play the rhythm on my keyboard then change the notes in the daw with clicking dragging etc
if i was put into a studio i wouldnt know a fucking thing what to do unless i had fl studio haha.
i make beats like this sometimes just use the offset method i do it manually with a mouse, i think a electronic drum machine would be better for me because a beat pad makes you kind of press i think? and its way too offbeat for me because i have a delay or think too much rather than hitting a pad with a drum stick
Oooh these are vibey as fuck. Are those drums tube distorted? I have an older sc with a couple tracks more like this, I’ll repost from my current sc if you’re interested.
I mostly use the swing in the channel rack and have my piano roll stuff snap to whatever grid I’m using.
And yeah nobody else can hear it either but it bothers me so bad lmao. That track is tough anyway.
Lastly I’m finally learning how things are done in abelton just because a lotta guys have copied that flow for FL, but I’m an FL pleb through the bone.
yeah the swing in the channel rack is very usefull but like you said alot of people are doing it know so i use the method of manually moving the notes in the piano roll press alt and slightly move your mouse left or right to taste
thank you man yeah i make alot of “lofi” stuff too but dont share it i dont really like the “lofi” stuff out there so i make my own lol
i think i followed that account i’m not sure but yeah post it ill have a look
ableton looks good i dont think i’ll ever change from FL i fits my workflow and creativity easily but it does attract alot of goons. maybe i’m one of them lol ignorance is bliss
I’d filter that part a little bit more and bring it back for the drop,( high pass up or down, low pass the opposite, maybe a bp if you’re feeling frisky.)
then the drop will have more impact
These drums are unreal though I am really digging this.
I’d like to hear more movement in the bass oscillator, it’s stayed static pretty much this whole time.
Since you’re going for the distorted live drum effect, maybe throw in some Tom and snare fills.
Things get a little crazy for a second at about 3:15 not sure what’s going on.
This is really heavy, I listen to a lot of metal, if the bass was a little thinner it would sound like a metal interlude from like ‘14.
a little extra care given to that bass’s automation and filtering and I think you’ve got something really cool here to use as an innamission or intro to a set or whatever.
Yo that cymbal that brings in the fade out is PHENOMENAL, you have to fit that in sooner
Thanks for listening. Just got my Digitone2 yesterday, this is the first thing I made with it. Unfortunately Overbridge isn’t available for it yet so I don’t have access to the individual tracks to eq them separately without recording those tracks.
