I’ll upload one of my tunes that im thinking of when I get to the hotel for tonight. Its like, mostly low end, and sounds fine on headphones, but in the car and such it just has no presence. Iirc I high-passed everything, but I probably just mixed it like shit
Nvm I think i figured out the problem
For the crate diggers
I’ve got all those Paul Hilary compilations (folk funk / children of the sun) some really nice stuff on there. Check out his mixcloud too, loads of mixes of that stuff and other bits all with tracklistings.
I’d also recommend the Numero Group label for lots of similar stuff (in particular the Eccentric Sound of …) series.
Oh there’s also the Athens of the North label which has lots of old soul, funk, folk and other bits that are of a similar style for sampling
Also this is great, the label is excellent and music stands out on its own but also very sample able
Ooh lovely!!
I’m definitely going to listen to them, not just for samples!
seconding numero group, killer label for reissues and compilations
another good one in that same super well curated vein is soundway, almost all their compilations are instacop
This might take a while to get through
Ooo yeh forgot about them, this is a great release, along with the rest of the label like you said
Ive subbed to AOTN, Soundway, and Numero Group playlists
Runtime: 198 hours.
There’s this genre of “YouTube hardware jam music” that I’m having a real snob reaction to after my algorithm detected my interest in Octatrack
It’s split into two main schools imo:
JonMakesBeats - aping sample-less J Dilla lofi hip hop. This stuffs OK, inoffensive.
Then there’s this saccharine, somewhat Floating Points-ish future garage that’s completely overloaded with ear candy synth arpeggios. Always a super twee intimate-clicks Burial beat, lathered wiith every bit of juicy synth texture and automation the uploader’s studio can have running live
Something about it really irks me lol - having fun in your man cave sound spaceship, fuck off, have some restraint & humility lol.
