I was at a D.R.I. gig last night.
(they were the originators of crossover…punk to metal)
30 years after the infamous gig at the Old Canberra Inn,
when, with punters back-somersaulting off the stage,
a big mob of skinheads arrived, feeling agro,
and started a blue with audience & band.
Instruments were broken over heads & punch-ups all round
until it was rumoured that the cops were coming
and the skinheads scarpered,
returning once they realized they’d been mislead by someone
but now, having been a bova, they were in a more conciliatory mood,
& joined the mosh and circle dances in a spirit of brotherly reconciliation
Anyway, I got to talking with the promoter,
nice bloke Craig who bought me a cider
in appreciation of the fact
that after I walked in without paying,
sought somebody to give my dosh to.
(I’ve promoted, I know it’s for the bands)
So we’re talking about thrash & such
and get onto dubstep, proppa dubstep.
And he says he doesn’t know much about it
except that he has a mate into it
that knew some heads who told him about The 42,
supposedly a gathering of dubstep tastemakers
whose members come from all around the world
and follow a code somewhat similar to the Samurai.
Many remain unknown to the others except via anonymous communiques
and random meetings in a place that starts with L.
This sounded like metaller bullshit to me
but you never know…
Has anybody else heard of this group, The 42?
btw, D.R.I. were as good as ever but the skinheads never turned up
maybe cos their leaders,
after chucking a guy off a roof in Sydney while tripping,
got themselves killed.
